From my understanding you can no longer deposit 1000 towards the Elio. You couldn't for sometime now.

I would have purchased an i=Road in a heartbeat. I followed the Toyota i-Road R&D process through the Beta fleet testing and hoped it would make it to production based on all the positive test drive and beta fleet testing reviews. The only successful new startup delivering a FMVSS certified production model appears to be Arcimoto. One of my favorite quotes: “Sooner is better than later, now is better than sooner.”
