Happy Friday Elio’ers! We hope you had a tremendous Independence Day, that your ears are no longer ringing and that any burns are almost healed. Having a holiday land smack dab in the middle of a week is sort of strange: one the one hand, it felt like there were two Mondays in one week and on the other it feels like today is the second Friday of the week. We’ll call it a wash. Next year the 4th falls on a Thursday, which we much prefer. If you decided to take both Thursday and Friday off, however, it didn’t make much of a difference!
Since this is a busy weekend for many, we will keep this week’s Friday blog short, sweet, and to the point. Independence Day is a particularly important holiday to us at Elio Motors for several different reasons. First, we are unabashedly proud to be Americans and feel fortunate every day to be a part of this country. Secondly, we want to do our part. We work every single day to bring an American-made product to market and to employ Americans to build that product. The Elio is a vehicle by Americans, for Americans. It has been a long road, but one we sincerely believe is well worth the effort. Of course, we couldn’t begin to reach our goals without our supporters, for whom we are eternally grateful. Thank you for everything that you do and enjoy your freedom this weekend!

Happy Friday Elio’ers! Earlier this week, we came across a piece of information we thought you might find interesting. The headline of the article that grabbed our attention was “Profitt Report: Michiganders pay more for auto insurance than any other state, survey says.” This headline was interesting to us in part because even though Shreveport is our manufacturing home, Michigan is where the engineering magic happens. Also, we have many suppliers in the area. In addition, it brings up an interesting topic related to our vehicle.
Paying for insurance is a frustrating yet necessary obligation to own and operate either an automobile or motorcycle. Let’s take a look at the differences in insurance costs for both automobiles and motorcycles.
Automobiles
As we mentioned, the most expensive state to insure a vehicle in Michigan. According to Business Insider, “If you own and operate a vehicle, car insurance is a necessary purchase. On average, Americans spend $125 a month, or $1,503 for an annual rate, on car insurance, according to a study done by ValuePenguin.” In Michigan, the average driver spends over $2,600 annually in automotive insurance premiums. Ouch! On the other end of the spectrum, folks in North Carolina spend a much more reasonable $865 on average annually. Rates have been steadily increasing in the past few years. In 2014, the average annual cost nationally was nearly $600 less than it is today.
Motorcycles
Insuring a motorcycle is much easier on the wallets and pocketbooks of owners. According to Value Penguin, “Motorcycle insurance is required in most states in the U.S. but regardless of local laws, riders should purchase a policy to protect their bike and financial well-being. The average cost of motorcycle insurance is $519 per year in the U.S., which is well below the average cost of auto insurance. But, depending on which state you live in, this rate can vary by over 200%.” North Dakota is the least expensive state to insure a motorcycle, coming in at $283 a year. Incredibly, that’s only about $67 less than it costs to ensure an automobile in Michigan for a single month!
While we think this is generally interesting information, it also has implications for our vehicle and future Elio owners. As we’ve mentioned in prior blogs, the Elio’s three-wheeled configuration makes it likely that our vehicle will be insured as a motorcycle. (To save you time, if you contact your local agent, they probably won’t know about us just yet. But they will as we get closer to production!) We receive quite a few questions about the exact cost to insure the Elio. It’s hard to say because every insurance company calculates their premiums differently, but we do know that a vehicle’s cost and safety rating play a major role. As our vehicle will be safe and inexpensive, the Elio will be very inexpensive to insure, especially when compared with current premiums.

I see the final 76 week to production time line in view with the blogs becoming more focused on the soon to be cocerns of of the first 65k. Been playing closer attention to the entire 1600 cryptotokens & $250 billion cryptocurrency industry of which the Eliocoin will be a tiny slice of the new & emerging security token, highly regulated by the SEC....unlike the utlity token that everyone is familiar with & rightly supicious of. This whole security token wave happens in the next 6-12 months depending on the expert you listen to. So by the end of
2018 or 2019 holidays. Need to set up the new exchanges like tzero. Can easily see a 2020 production start but ELIO just said 2019in a email response 2 days ago. If 2020 is a bummer& happens I'd buy on that dip. Security tokens are the future, seconds instead of days to settle ! Worldwide participation!! Trillions untapped investor potential across the globe!!! And ELIO & overstock are in on it and soaring recently.

When I get on something I can be like a dog with a bone. I've posted this before and I'll probably keep posting it every now and then until Elio either adopts the idea or the cars are produced without it. If the latter happens my respect for the designers of the car will not only go down, but I'll be pissed.
Below is the way the rear of the car should look... not the way they show it. If you doubt this the next time you're driving around town see how many cars and trucks you can spot that "don't" have their name or logo on the back.
