Being Thankful
November 24, 2017

Happy Friday Elio’ers! We hope that you had a fabulous Thanksgiving, aren’t still too full, and ready to enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend. For those of you that might be reading this on your phone while standing in line trying to score some great Black Friday deals, good luck with the crowds! Today is also a great day for college football rivalries. However you choose to celebrate the Thanksgiving weekend, we hope you thoroughly enjoy it!

We know that today is busy for many of you, so we will keep this week’s Friday blog short, sweet, and to the point. The Thanksgiving weekend is all about counting our blessings and being thankful. For Elio Motors, we are eternally thankful to all of our supporters who have joined us along this journey. Being an early adopter isn’t always the easiest position to take, but there are thousands of you that have spread the word about us and showed us your support in a wide variety of ways. From the Elio Motors team to you, thank you.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving weekend!

It’s “Snow” Problem
December 1, 2017

Happy Friday Elio’ers! Have you ever been reading something, say a newspaper or magazine article, and by the end of a certain sentence your eyes involuntarily do a double take because something stood out to you? It could be that you may have misread a word or that the sentence contained an egregious spelling error, but you instinctively go back and re-read the line to make sure you haven’t missed anything. Even though we receive hundreds even thousands, of emails weekly, there was one particular email this week that commanded several rereads. The email was from a reservation holder in Hawaii. Nothing strange there. But then, they mentioned snow…in Hawaii.

After a quick search, we realized that this inquiry was prompted by a rare tropical snowstorm. Still, you can’t blame us for our incredulity. This time of year, we regularly field a ton of questions about the Elio’s ability to drive in snow (usually not from Hawaii.) We know that many of our supporters already know the answer, but the question persists, so this week we will take a look at the Elio’s drivability in some common driving conditions.

Snow

This question typically comes in two varieties: can the Elio drive in snow and can the Elio replace a snow plow. The answer to the first question is a resounding yes. The answer to the second question is an equally resounding no. By having the engine in the front, and having front wheel drive, the design of the Elio places the majority of the weight over the front tires, which gives it tremendous traction action. Similarly, with a low center of gravity, traction and stability control, and ABS brakes, the Elio will be able to handle a reasonable amount of snow. It will not replace your SUV, but will still drive just fine in wintery conditions. Check out this video:

Hills

With over 55 foot-pounds of torque, the Elio will be able to handle hilly terrain, no problem. Also, hill start assist now comes standard.

Unpaved/Dirt/Gravel Roads

The Elio is a front wheel drive vehicle and will be able to handle unpaved, dirt, and gravel roads with relative ease. It is not a work truck though, so if you live 15 miles up a deeply rutted old logging road, with three boulders to drive over, you may want to keep your Elio at the main road and ride the trail with your four-wheel drive truck.

Wind

The high MPG achieved in the Elio is due, in large part, to its amazing aerodynamics. What aerodynamics do for us is manage the air around the vehicle. This same ability to “slice” through the air is what helps the Elio to remain stable in most high wind situations, including large vehicles passing by.

Ultimately, the Elio it designed to be a solid vehicle for most driving conditions. While it may not replace a four-wheel drive behemoth or snow plow, it will handle driving conditions just as well as most four-wheeled vehicles on the road today, and at a fraction of the price.

Thanks for your support and have a fantabulous weekend!

Is it just me, or does this latest blog ‘update’ sound like a 1940’s type radio ad ? Maybe I’ve been listening to ‘Johnny Dollar’ and ‘The Life of Riley’ with too many Rinso and Meat Council ads but “designed to be a solid vehicle for most driving conditions,” “high MPG achieved is due...to it!s amazing aerodynamics...remain stable....tremendous traction action.” !!!

They're kind of like the EM version of Lorem Ipsum.

How these things actually show up at all is still a great mystery to us (probably due to another NDA)...
But logic says there's got to be at least one person left to click the send and upload buttons a couple times a week.

Think Bob Cratchit in a wooden shack somewhere doing nothing but writing blogs and answering "hundreds, even thousands of emails weekly."

Shreveport, Snow Tires, and More…
December 8, 2017

Happy Friday Elio’ers! First, a quick public service announcement: you have 17 days to finish (or start, as the case may be) your holiday shopping. A word to the wise, if you occasionally have to fight off procrastination, this may be a good time to start.

Today’s Friday Blog will cover two topics: the status of our plant in Shreveport and a follow-up to last week’s blog regarding the Elio’s ability to drive in various conditions.

There seems to be quite a few rumors floating around regarding the plant in Shreveport. We want to make it clear, unequivocally, that nothing has changed in regards to the plant. From the beginning, our aim has been to produce the Elio and create jobs in the area. Also, from the beginning, we knew that we would not be utilizing the entirety of the plant. There is another company currently using the plant, and that has always been the plan. In short, all is good in Shreveport. We look forward to creating jobs for the people of the Caddo Parish.

We received dozens of follow-up questions after last week’s opus about the Elio’s ability to handle different conditions. Below are the most popular questions from the past week!

Can I put chains on the Elio?

The Elio is by no means a SUV, although many of us would love a brand new American made SUV for $7,450! Part of the beauty of the Elio is that it is affordable enough that you can purchase an Elio and keep your vehicle that can handle blizzards. That being said, we know that some areas require chains as a safety precaution, so we plan on offering a winter package that would include larger fenders that would accommodate a low profile, think cable style, set of chains.

Will snow tires be available?

As you probably know, Continental is our tire supplier. The tires that are standard on the Elio are considered four season tires which are great for most all types of driving. As is the case with all accessories, if there is enough demand, that item will become available. So, if enough Elio customers want snow tires for their whip, the market will make them available.

Will the Elio be able to handle mountain driving?

The Elio will be a fantastic vehicle to take on mountain outings! We plan on offering a variety of different racks for mountain bikes, skis, etc. As far as actual driving, the Elio will have enough torque to handle hilly terrain. Additionally, hill start assist now comes as standard equipment.

Thanks for your enduring support and have a marvelous weekend!

P.S. " Equivocal is from a Latin word meaning of equal voice, so unequivocal means of unequal voice — unmistakable, unambiguous, without question."
