Just saw a news item on TV for St. Louis' FIRST robotics competition downtown at Chaifetz Arena. The short clips they showed entailed climbing and getting through doorways. Didn't see any box stacking like you guys performed at the Edward Jones dome. Different class of competition?

Nope. It's a completely different game every year. This year, no stacking. Getting over / through obstacles, shooting balls, capturing / climbing a tower.

Yep...That's what they were showing! So I suppose you try to repurpose as many parts from last years bots and reconfigure them into a design that'll accomplish the given task(s). Dang! Where was this when I was a teenager....Oh right...The PC hadn't even been invented yet and Pong was 'high-tech'.

Actually, I don't think that you are supposed to repurpose things. I may be wrong here, but I think I remember reading that you are technically supposed to start fresh every season. Now typically, if you've got something that worked well, you can certainly use the design.
We do a lot of scrounging off old bots though, looking for cylinders, or chains, or some thing, but not typically complete systems.
