They were both part of the Bell System until '85 when Bobby Kennedy and the Justice Dept broke up the Bell System. The infamous Judge Green divestiture decision in 1985. I worked for Long Lines which you may never have heard of. We were the long distance arm of the Bell System (AT&T).

Not sure. All I remember is when we move out that way in '74, it was one thing (Ma Bell? Monopoly?), and then it broke up....had to be before around '79 - '80-ish as I recall [blurry back then , I'm better now!]

That's messed up! My Dad worked for Mountain Bell, which somehow turned into AT&T sometime when I was a teenager [around 120th North, and something]. And my older brother [an original computer geek ], worked for a competing company, and they both received letters 'allowing them' to have contact with each other, since they weren't in related fields....or something like that. Heck, you know any 'Jungs' back in the day? [German...not Korean I get a lot of 'unsolicited' mail from Ginseng companies that I can't read. ...It's Greek to me!]

Back when they broke up the Bell System, we were given a choice between staying with the local Bell systems and providing local service, or going with ATT and competing for long distance service with MCI, after a law suit that broke up the monopoly on phone service. Sounds like your Dad chose AT&T. Based on the location you discribed, I'm guessing he worked in the central office, at 120th and Washington. There was also a garage location there so he may have been an outside tech. Those were good times.

Nope, no relation [dang it!]. Dad's side of the family was from Newark, NJ.

Yep, exactly! He chose AT&T, and I believe my bro worked for MCI. Dad did a ton of travelling, so outside tech sounds right.

Nope, no relation [dang it!]. Dad's side of the family was from Newark, NJ.

I originally worked for N.Y. Telephone, and transferred to Denver in 1975 when we were all facing layoffs on the East Coast. Since we were all AT&T at that time, the Bell System offered to pick up the tab to transfer us where they needed us, rather than lay us off. Most of the folks were Viet Nam era vets, and being a Union job, we were the one's facing layoffs, since they hadn't hired since WW11. Seniority dictated back then.

Although the name doesn't ring a bell, I'm sure our paths crossed at one time or another. Later in my career I went into management in contract administration, and had interaction with most departments.
