I'm thinking in terms of what I'm expecting near-term. My guess is that the algorithms the actuaries use to determine risk etc don't support autocycles yet. If I were an agent plugging data in for a quote, I'd probably have to select something like "motorcycle, 900cc, make/model other" maybe trike is built in - but they're probably not going to have options in the system for seat belts, airbags etc.
The closest thing out there under 20k is the Can-Am so it's a natural thing to check - at least in the context of motorcycle vs trike insurance cost.
MOst Canams are >20K

A little off topic, but I find this true when considering any auto purchase: go talk to the mechanics and they can tell you which vehicles they have to work on all the time and which ones they almost never see. (I used to work at a repair place back in the day.)
As a total novice here I have to ask, is it better that the mechanic is very experienced because they are working on a vehicle all the time or that the vehicle is so good the mechanic rarely sees it? :-) Z

Actually, both; from my experience as well as time under the hood I knew which vehicles required a lot more attention as well as were easy to work on because of good design. I also saw which ones leaked lots of oil as well as heard from their owners that reported which ones were praised and which were lauded for problems.

The overall experience seemed valuable because the mechanics didn't care what they were seeing and no reason to lie since they didn't stand to benefit from voicing any observation about any particular vehicle...just sayin'...

The latter is the better scenario, provided the design of the vehicle isn't so bizarre/unusual that nobody outside the dealership knows how to work on it.
Elio is using some very standard designs which are even less complicated than many other vehicles on the road today. I don't have any concerns about getting it worked on.

Thanks Bill and Charlie G. Now we can return this thread to its original stated purpose - Insurance. :) Z
Repair concerns could go hand-in-hand with insurance if you think about it.
A car that is more expensive to repair is going to be more expensive to insure.
My only concern is there is probably going to be a very narrow band for insurance claims on these things with high deductibles (like I typically carry).
Say you have a 1k deductible and after 5 years the car is in an accident. Any repairs under 1k you would pay out of pocket, and insurance is probably only going to pay for repairs up to the blue book value of the vehicle before calling it totalled. Say the resale value is cut in half after 5 years, that would mean insurance would only effectively pay for repairs between 1k and 3.4k - it is not hard to exceed that number in an accident. Labor is labor, inexpensive car or not.

Ever hear of a little company named Harley Davidson?

They have their own bank and insurace company!

One stop shopping...
I sugested that to EM. EMAC
At one time GMAC was making more money for GM than the car's.
He said it was a good idea and did not rule it out in the future, but they need the capital for start up at this time.

In that vein, the Moto v3 was supposed to be a very reliable phone, but I had a low opinion of it as a customer service technician because I was getting complaints about it malfunctioning a half dozen times a day.

I have full coverage on my three wheel 2013 Scoot Coupe through Allstate including PIP for around $400 a year here in Texas. I shopped around and found most other companies were either close to that figure or would not cover it at all... I have 3 vehicles and home owner insurance as a bundle which accounts for a cheaper rate. Shop around when you buy as I did and you should get a pretty good rate!
