Thanks for the quick reply, I was asked by a potential customer. He's trying to make up his mind.
By the time the cars are rolling off the line, this too will be resolved. Low on the list of concerns (at this time) is insurance
E.M. I'm sure has looked into this, and perhaps as production date is finalized, they can shift their resources from helmet and M.C. laws to insurance.- They have discussed their own financing program, perhaps they will pick up this service too.

Has anyone approached an insurance company to see if they will cover the Elio?

(Moderator - Merged into larger insurance thread where others have done this)
Yes. I had an in depth discussion with my agent (Ron Morin) at Liberty Mutual several weeks ago here in Lewiston Maine. He did some research, and got back to me and clarified they will insure the Elio as a motorcycle, it will be a full 12 month policy (despite Maine having very snowy winters when motorcycles are not out), the second person in the Elio will be fully covered as if they were riding two up.

I was warn to make sure we actually get 4 season coverage with our insurance coverage. A lot of motorcycle coverages are for three seasons only, specially up in the North. Be sure to check. I also was told to get it added to my auto insurance and not a separate policy.
Thanks for that heads up! I wasn't aware of that. Perhaps the autocycle classification, if insurance companies choose to adopt that new class of motorcycle, will help resolve the 4 season coverage issue.

Makes no sense to get 3 season coverage anyway. Over any period of time your rates average out lower if you just insure all year.
I should know been riding over 45 years never take coverage off. Not all even offer it. and general it is a half year deal.

Most Auto insurance companies do not write Motorcycles. If they offer it is through a third party.
They put their name on it but are not the real insurer.

Elio Motors is well aware of the insurance question and have told us that in the months prior to production they plan to provide insurance companies with a standard packet of information which insurance companies request from vehicle manufacturers. Current potential issues, such as the need for four season coverage, will very likely be resolved when the insurance companies have all the information they need as this vehicle will likely be listed in insurers vehicle database with such details accounted for. So until EM provides insurers the planned information I would not count on receiving accurate insurance quotes for this vehicle from insurers.

That a good point. I better check my GEICO insurance in Georgia, because I ride all 4 season. Motorcycle is my mine transportation, and I ride it daily weather it rain or sunshine. We don't get much snow here where I am at.
