Elio In Snow Pictures On Elio Website

I just checked out the website (as I usually do) and discovered 3 new pictures of the Elio being driven in snow. Check them out! Looks pretty good to me.

Never doubted it. It should handle like most any other front wheel drive in the snow. Last February I worked a week in Anchorage, AK. I drove a front wheel drive Nissan Altima and it did great. Towards the end of the week the wheel wells were starting to get packed with snow, but no major issues.

My Toyota Camry is also front wheel drive and I drove it in snow for 5 very long winters in Pocatello, ID. That is one of the reasons I now live in Sutherlin, OR. Snow is a rare occurrence here. LOL I never had trouble with my car but I sure hated shoveling snow. :-) You have to admit the orange is sure pretty in the snow. LOL

The rear wheel in the middle will cause driving in snow to be somewhat more difficult. We can usually follow the tracks of the last car through the snow, but the middle wheel must blaze a new trail. This means more resistance, so it won't be quite the same as a four wheeled auto. I'm curious to try it out.

Put the rear wheel on a ski, then lock the ebrake. No problem.

As a light plane driver, make it a wheel penetration ski and you won't have to lock the ebrake. A straight ski would be a disaster on Alaska' main roads due to the variable road surfaces. With good studded tires and weight in the back the Elio should be Ok. Only problem I see is the front wheel farings which might have to be replaced with a different design or removed for snow driving.
The mid-west member who has his Elio on a set of "tracks" ( in his upper left picture box) may be onto a really interesting off road winter trail application. The tracks will provide higher ground clearance and the rear wheel could be totally replaced with a ski assembly. Humm mm!!

In am retired now and don't expect to ever take my Elio out I the snow to play. I had a rule when I was working, "White on the ground, Jayne not found." I can drive in the snow but others do some crazy things. Better safe than sorry. She will be garaged and well taken care of.
