This is the BIG WARNING. There is no market for these shares; you might be able privately to transfer them to another shareholder, but I'm not sure about that. In any case, you should READ THIS:

The securities offered on the Site are only suitable for prospective investors who are familiar with and willing to accept the high risks associated with private investments, including the risk of complete loss of your investment. Securities sold through private placements are not publicly traded and, therefore, are illiquid unless registered with the SEC. Securities will be subject to restrictions on resale or transfer including holding period requirements. Investing in private placements requires high risk tolerance, low liquidity need, and long-term commitments. Users must be able to afford to lose their entire investment. Investment products are not FDIC insured, may lose value, and there is no bank guarantee.

I understand its a risk. I also understand that this may be my only opportunity to seriously buy stock shares in a company that could go really big... $1000 wont make or break me, but if this bet is good, it could save me.

I don't think securities are transferable for a full year. I also found this note about the State securities regulator involvement. Something to check on as well.

Pretty sure I read where the State Regulators only get involved for the smaller offering - Tier 1. Elio is going for Tier 2:
(From http://www.forbes.com/sites/mraneri...iling-a-regulation-a-offering-with-the-sec/3/)

In a Tier 1 offering, you'll be able to raise up to $20 million in capital. Your offering will be subject to SEC and state review in every state in which you're selling securities (the so-called 'blue sky laws').

With Tier 2, issuers can raise more money - up to $50 million - and your offering will not be subject to state review. However, the reporting requirements are much more stringent for Tier 2. You'll have to submit audited financials, and after your offering is complete, you'll have ongoing reports to file.

ESG was Paul Elio's first comany, nothing unusual. Keep researching Elio and the truck seat he designed, it has been the topic of what goes right and what goes wrong in trying to bring new products to market.
ESG and the principals in it, ALSO hold all the patents and patent application on the ELIO. Just a few I found are to do with the airbags, side beams and seat mount cross beams. I can not find any patents or patent applications in the name of EM? Having EM as an empty shell is good business practice, just not a comforting one for this investor.

If you have any kind of investments 401k, 403b, IRA, Roth IRA, stocks, ect.....you pretty much are in the same boat! No one guarantees your investment against loss of any kind. Example between 2008 and 2009 we lost 42% of the value of our 401k. Unlike many who cut their losses and ran, we road out the storm and continued to purchase funds. Today we are above our expectations for this time in our lives and still have a few years before retirement and we still have money riding in the market.
Never put up money you can't afford to lose! Choose your investments wisely! At almost 57 & 59 years of age we don't need someone telling us what to do with our money. We lost out on years of investing because we were young, scared and knew nothing about investing, except we could lose our money. We listened to to many people telling us,"you can lose everything." I wish I knew then, what I know now about investments. Hind sight is 20/20! Now we trust ourselves to make informed decisions and live with the consequences, you should too! Keep in mind no risk, no reward! Greater the risk, greater the reward or loss! The further you are from retirement the greater risk you should take. You have plenty of time to make it up, if it's a bust. If your in or near retirement don't risk your nest egg on the next sure thing, Hoping to cash in big time. Ain't gonna happen! It's not day trading stocks for instant gratification but Investing for the long term gain. There is a reason financial advisors will tell you to buy and hold a stock. We will buy and hold our shares of Elio motors, come what may! Win or lose, we believe in the product, the dream and Paul Elio!

I'm not sure what the concern would be about a person who owns more than one business, especially if he had sights on diversification down the road. I think the primary risk with the Elio, other than it's low cost, is the severe addiction most driving Americans have to petroleum powered, over capacity vehicles, and the lack of real world options for starting to wean us off it all. I think Paul Elio is taking a stab at that whole issue, and if his timing is right it will pay off, if his timing is off he'll go bust. In my opinion that's the real gamble, I'm in for the long haul, I get many are not. :)

2,200+ stock reservations so far... Compared to all the other crowdfunding options on startengine.com, the elio went off like a hydrogen bomb... I think its pretty safe to say that we can expect offers from elio motors at some point... I don't see them walking away from these millions of dollars...
