A BIG question for me is why no entity will step up and fund this vehicle? Are we, the 50,000 enthusiasts completely wrong? Does this vehicle not make total sense in so many ways? Why doesn't TATA or a similar company see this as a viable business opportunity? I come to the conclusion that the problem is with the numbers. The price of $6800 is simply not possible. My brother-in-law sells his bicycles for up to $10K. With a SmartCar at $18,000 is it reasonable to expect an ELIO at $6800? What is wrong with this concept? 3 years ago, my common sense told me the ELIO was not going to become a reality, but I had HOPE. Today I'm glad we have had a Miata to enjoy while waiting, and HOPE is almost gone.

Well if Mr. Elio is to be believed, he is $500 from his goal of $6800 per vehicle. That's close enough for me. In addition, if he ever gets the vehicle eligible for the CAFE credits, then he has a real winner on his hands, bot for us as consumers and his profit as a businessman.
