I changed my mind. YES! We could certainly use the economic boost in this area. But since we got squat for lithium, it would have to be for mining something like Thorium (nuclear-powered EV, anyone?)
Did you know ... (today's trivia) that while they were over in Afghanistan they just happen to find the largest lithium deposit there was anywhere.
They have already started extracting it for ..... well you know how they do economic rebuilding.:becky:

That is terrible news. I hope we would have learned not to become dependent on anything from the middle east.

Where does electricity come from ??? How "GREEN" is that ?
Maybe people are realizing that and carbon foot print is not what everyone thought it to be.
Get rid of the coal... then what? OR... Just thinking,"not in my back yard".

Hope I didn't strike a nerve,on this thread.

Meh, I don't really care. I love our EV because of its low mainainence costs, quiet operation, and low-end torque. Getting "green" points with some of my more environmentally-conscientious friends is a bonus, but nothing more.

Whether it's Montana coal, Washington hydro power, or rooftop solar, I don't particularly care for where the electricity comes from. Would I prefer cleaner electricity? Sure. I've visited smog-laden cities, and I love the clean air we have up here in the Pacific Northwest. But to me, the purchase of any vehicle is about What It Costs and How It Performs. And everything our Leaf can't do, my Elio will be perfect for, so I feel pretty good about it over-all :)

Looking at some more EV product launches today. It seems to have been accepted that EV supercars and EV luxury sports will be the norm from now on. ICE drive supercar is losing ground on this one. I think the maintenance and operational costs maybe one reason. Do you know what maintenance for a top supercar ICE drive costs each year? I don't think I want to know myself.

I forget the guy around here that did it, but he regularly drove his super-truck dragster to the local EV meetings. A white S10? This thing, street legal, he would just change the tires and race against top-fuel dragsters. His typical cost to run, not including tires? 17c. Typical cost to the ICE drives, between $1500 and $16k every three or four races depending on the engine re-fit required, not including tires. And not including the gas and oil.

All he needed to be beating every ICE drive out there, according to him, was batteries that would dump their current faster. He could then just wire them up for a higher voltage, and Wha-La! His custom DIY wound motor was already capable of it. Of course he was a professional e-traction-motor rebuilder/electrician. Mr Berube I think?
Yes I think it's this guy.. http://www.gizmag.com/top-5-worlds-fastest-street-legal-electric-car/11414/

I looked at that motor down in the tranny well. It's just a bit bigger than the tranny was, more can shaped of course. Just plugged flat onto the drive shaft. What a monster motor!

Really? Which are those?

Personally, I'm waiting for news on the ranges for the 2017 Nissan Leaf and Kia Soul EVs. Ever since the fervor of the Tesla Model 3 and the impending Chevy Bolt, Nissan and Kia have both gone quiet as to the specifications of their next model years. I hope it is because they want to increase battery size, because I'd gladly take a 200-mile Leaf over the Bolt for a future car purchase.

It seems every manufacturer is at least making concepts that could compete with Tesla.
The latest one. I have no proof of ICE replacement, but I see the potential.
