The seating capacity and range are fine with me. I just can't justify spending $16,000 on it (A/C isn't an option here). If they would sell me one at 1/2 of that price I'd already have a reservation.

For an electric car, that's dirt cheap! Of course you can buy the Tesla with everything you want on it for at least 6x that price. I'm fine with the price, the range (100 miles or slightly less depending on the driver's heavy foot) and even the top speed quoted and 0-60 of 8 sec. All I need is the actual results that it can do that without race modifications or anything. It ain't easy trying to justify something unique and made no less in Canada where labor ain't cheap! I have 2 reservations for the ELIO because they offer it for even less (7K) and if they pull it off for that price with airbags, ac/heat, am/fm radio and manual and made in the US, that would be a real game changer! So let's all root for these startups because it'll benefit us all in the end.

I don't think it has to be a 3 wheel vehicle. I believe they've given it on a Tesla 3 deposit. Ask Rick.

Electric isn't worth paying extra for, in my opinion. What matters it the total cost to own (to me). And that $9000 price premium for the Solo would buy me more than enough gas to last the life of an Elio (with my driving habits).

That's true of the Solo as well, for now. And the payback period for that is over 15 years when compared to my current truck (21 mpg).


I'm not really knocking the concept. I really do like the Solo (and the Arcimoto), but the cost right now is just a bit too high to pay itself back quickly enough. Although, I fully expect the cost of batteries to change that equation in 5 years or less.

Yes, any reservation deposit will do. I used my Tesla Model 3 reservation receipt for the max $1K.

The logic just bothers me a little when people go on about how much more money they're saving...
Oh, wait, I'm sorry... Would save if their Elio is ever produced... In comparison with everything and anything else.

Often in comparison with things that have better MPGe and a whole lot more of a chance of sitting in my driveway this year.

In his defense, neither the Elio NOR the Solo are currently being produced for sale and he has neither.
