On the Facebook page where this was posted Joel Sheltrown, Elios VP of Government Affairs, clarified this statement by writing that this change in legal status would only apply to the CAFE standards and not to the vehicles NHTSA classification. It will still be a motorcycle to the NHTSA but will be a car for CAFE credits. He said that their is a precedence for this as congress changed the rules for the ATVM loan program to allow three wheeled vehicles even if they are not cars according to the NHTSA definition.

These minutes are a great find as it lays out several good ways Elio Motors is working to bring in the money they need to move forward. They appear to be working on all these plans at the same time which is a smart move as it is never smart to put all your eggs in one basket.

The will sell off the equipment they can't use in the plant for $70 million which they expect to net them $40 million after they pay off what they owe on the equipment.

They plan on applying for $200 million from the ATVM loan program. It is very good to hear they have already completed what I am sure is a complicated application and are having it reviewed before submitting.

They are working to change the CAFE law to include their vehicle therefore allowing them to sell potentially large amounts of credits to auto manufacturers which is apparently what Tesla is also currently doing.

They also continue to work on bringing in investment via traditional means.

Very good to see these ideas laid out as this provides part of the answer to the frequently asked questions "Where is the money coming from?"

The concept car manufactures are going to be coming out of the walls trying to get that money. 20,30 or 50 or more prototypes will show up before then end of the year. Hope the elio holds up to the competition..oh, maybe I shouldn't us the words "hold up" around you guys...a license to steal.....don't hold your breath, he was turned down before! Its interesting. But make no mistake, this type of business is what is called "a race to the bottom", and smart players will avoid this chase, OR use it as a major writeoff, but perhaps build some valuable PR out of it.

We're going to see yet even considerably MORE variants in vehicles in the coming years, and places like hacker spaces are up to their necks in cool vehicle designs you couldn't even imagine, and even the lowly bicycle is making a huge comeback in various cities.

Demographics are clearly indicating people moving more and more into cities, and not even needing a car, hence the success of Zipcar. Millenials are choosing not to own, they prefer a car on demand when needed only, and because of the costs, and high rent, insurance, etc etc, why bother? Hell half of those young people are waiting for Elon's Hyperloop, so why bother buying a vehicle?

Point is, how people is getting parsed up more and more, daily, and being influenced in all kinds of places besides and Elio. People here including myself, now want to see our society transition off of big oil much as possible, it won't go away anytime soon, but we're all tired of how big oil insidiously controls so much. This is why we're seeing so much going on with alternative ways to move.

If you drive in bumper to bumper traffic daily, seeing one person in one car and one engine burning fuel, its a disgrace to see what we've built into society. My father used to say "man is enslaved by the machinery he creates", and when you are sitting there bumper to bumper you really see how stupid we are as humans.
