Hummm,
The black might indicate that the composit material is black or pretty close to it. So if you got a black one scrapes and scratches wouldn't show as much. ??

I'm glad you put ?? at the end of your statement. I suspect we have no idea at this early date but I could be wrong. :-) Z

I sure hope they are wrong about the exterior colors. I do not want a black vehicle and another added expense is definitely not needed. :) Z
You're looking at it the wrong way, black is the color of sophistication. It says, "I know it's only black but I'm just to cool for me to worry about it!" And remember, black is the new orange!

You are absolutely correct that prices do vary by color and this is actually the reason we have been given for yellow not being included as a standard color. I have to ask again today however I believe EM simply has a paint cost budget in their price goal and is selecting colors which they like but also fit within the budget. This is apparently the standard automotive industry way of doing it and actually means that what everyone is paying for is the most expensive standard color and if you choose a less expensive color they make a little bit more money.

I did some research a few weeks ago with existing car makers, and looked at the number of colors available for certain random makes and models. There were anywhere from 5-10 colors available, and some colors did cost extra, anywhere from $220-$500.

Can we PLEASE get back to discussing the important stuff, such as which side of the vehicle the gas cap is on?? :D

I asked the question on Elio Facebook.........why not bring back yellow? The response was we only have paint booth space for 7 colors.

When I had a chance to discuss what was reported online with Pam V. about black being the only standard exterior color she said it was likely that someone either overheard a conversation about the interior color and thought it was the exterior color or misunderstood when they spoke about the interior color.

The standard interior color will be black as seen in the P4 interior (minus the orange panel inserts which will be options) but the exact cloth used in the final model may not be the same. There will be optional interior colors available at additional cost.

As has been reported by others; For any OEM options which allow Elio Motors to reuse a component on another vehicle, such as seat upgrades, the cost of the upgrade will be offset somewhat as the option cost will not be the full price of the item but only the difference in price plus the cost of installation.

This is what we have been told when we have asked in person as well. Apparently the Shreveport plant has 7 paint booths and EM has determined that the most cost efficient way to run these paint booths is one color per paint booth so that's where they get 7 total colors.

We have also been told that at some point EM may entertain the idea of limited runs of an alternative color choice where one color would be replaced with another. Another option for EM would be to use one booth as GM used it which would allow for multiple colors to be painted in that one booth however as this is a less efficient process these colors would likely all be premium colors available as options. I would not look for them to do any of this in the first year and likely even longer.
