Just signed up for the Arcimoto test drive event in Austin on November 7th. Not that I really plan on picking one up, but if their hard sided doors and HVAC prove real world usable then maybe... Unless we hear something tangible from Elio in the next year or so. Or if Sondors actually turns out to not be vaporware. They have been curiously silent about the prototype lately.

Looking forward to the FUV test drive experience!
I signed up for the San Antonio event which is on Tues, 6 Nov.

I really have no interest in one, but I am curious enough to see what driving a 3 wheeled vehicle will be like. Since I drive a Volt, I know what the electric part will be like, and that will be a hoot in a smaller vehicle I am sure.

Come on Elio, lets get this done!

The Arcimoto is more cycle than auto, the Elio more auto than cycle. It is a hoot to drive and my guess is it will put a smile on your face. Let us know how it goes.

Better leave your checkbook at home. :)

I noticed that the same exact article has been posted at least four times before. So I just figured that I’d keep posting it because it’s new news and any of that is worth repeating at least a dozen times.

It is definitely a hoot to drive! It will most assuredly put a smile on your face!

Not having ridden a motorcycle since, oh, way back when, I can see the appeal of this as a motorcycle with the handlebar steering and I assume the windshield is based on the same. The optics seemed to be a bit off, but then again, one must realize it is a prototype. I believe these are numbers 3 and 4 off the line. But hey, at least they have drivable prototypes for the public to drive!

It was mentioned that these have squeaks and rattles that are being addressed for production models. They are gearing up slow, to catch anything that the general public will find to tear up, which we know the masses will do. Apparently some person couldn't figure out how to open the charge door, and ended up tearing it completely off. You know, silly stuff like that!

I like their idea of possibly setting up rental centers all over which could also be a sales point.

I could see myself renting one if I was in an area that had them. As far as buying one, I don't think it is in the cards for me. But I will support them all the way to what I hope is their eventual success! Plus, it is made in Oregon, and they are doing all the fab work inhouse.

I drove up in my Volt, wearing my $1,000 Elio shirt. One of their support staff called me out on it almost before I got out of the car. To funny! All l of them are wishing Elio would get their act together also, so the 3 wheel society is, or will be a tight knit society eventually.

So, the experience was a good one, just to short to really get a go on it, but I understand there are lawyers around to assure no funny business goes down at these events.

Now, if only Elio would get a start to get the public in one to drive...

Had a ton of fun on the test ride. They actually remembered KD and his Elio shirt from yesterday, LOL. Both of the Arcimoto reps said nothing but positive things about Elio and wished them luck.

The test ride was an absolute blast. If you are familiar with a motorcycle the controls are a breeze to pick up. Throttle, brake lever (for regen braking) and brake foot pedal (for physical brakes) are right where they are on a bike as is the turn signal/light switchgear on the left. Our route was mostly along the parking lot roads at Zilker Park with a very short section of city street where I was only able to get up to 40 MPH. That being said, it has plenty of pickup. I really did not feel it needed any additional power to make it fun to drive, and low speed modulation was really easy.

I think the rep riding with me may have needed a change of shorts, afterwards he said "well, that was certainly my quickest ride of the day" teehee. I was having fun.

As is, without doors and HVAC it is a no-go as a commuter for me but if I lived closer to the city or the beach (definitely!) I would love one as a runabout. What I really liked about the experience was getting a taste of how the Elio may drive. While it would sit lower it took no time to adjust to driving in the middle of the lane, easily visible outriggers were in less danger of hitting stuff than in a car where the wheels are not visible, and the side mirrors did feel adequate without a rear view. And carrying on a conversation with someone behind you without seeing them was really not that bad.

They had two there, an older one and this one that had the temporary center headlights. I think they said it was number 20? They said the production headlights would be more streamlined.

Thanks for the fun review! Team Arcimoto has been Elio supporters from the get go! They have even contracted with Joel Sheltrown, former EM VP, to work out a couple of Arcimoto legislative issues. Go three wheels! The more the merrier.

Note: The Beta my wife test drove had a factory fault in the windshield. Mine was sharp and clear. They would be wise to replace the faulty windshield to avoid negative assumptions that it’s typical to production models. Sig Series - Betas - Pilot Fleet used for testing/validation requirements to help determine any necessary tweaks, changes, and mods needed and to set up the AMP assembly line to insure maximum efficiency for the official assembly/delivery of the 2019 reservationist Vehicles. Cool to be able to rent one for a full day try before you buy workout!
