I really don't believe that they will change it for the first generation vehicles .... if it is mentioned by some reporter, they will respond that its a tribute to Paul's father and let it go at that .... the Elgin has been one constant throughout the company's development .... I was told by a member of the tour team that they have done their research and the design of a dash is seldom a lone disqualifier in a person's vehicle choice .... on Facebook they have responded, if you don't want the Elgin, find another new vehicle for $6,800 that gets 84 mpg and has a high safety rating .... in short, take it or leave it .... I don't like the looks of the Elgin and will change it via the aftermarket if possible .... so in my case they are right, I'm one of those they are convinced will buy an Elio even though I don't like the Elgin
It was my deciding factor in not getting the Chevy Sonic, I couldn't stand that dash!

interesting .... I wish EM would take notice .... that said, based on direct responses to related questions my asked EM on Facebook, they will point out there is no alternative to an Elio so its take it or leave it .... as a firm supporter of EM and fully understanding Paul's desire for a tribute to his father, I still find this attitude on the Elgin to be troubling

There are many Elio Reservationists that like and may actually prefer the Elgin dash. So you are troubled in the sense that Elio isn't catering to those that don't like it? Many that didn't like it initially have warmed up to the Elgin.

If I was spending over $6800 on a vehicle there would be many design/styling features that would prevent me from buying it, but nothing so far on the Elio.

I think not providing
an alternative &/or
option is beyond
stubborn, it's shortsighted.....

that's fine .... personal preferences are just that and as you noted, some folks like the dash .... many prefer the P3 front fenders and EM says they will make them available as an extra cost option .... many prefer cruse control, again they will make it an extra cost option .... the list of such extra cost options has and continues to grow .... every such item a person adds will increase EM's profit .... on the Elgin, they will not even discuss providing an extra cost option, its take it or leave it .... given that as our only option, we will take it and hopefully somewhere down the line an aftermarket alternative will be available

I'm not familiar with any car company that provides an alternative dash for their production cars. Can you site one that does? If not, then why should EM be considered stubborn and short sighted?
They do offer options; but it's very limited. The dash in a car with navigation/touch screen is very different for a car that doesn't have it. That is a viable option in almost ever car made today.
Plus car companies will spend a lot of time and money doing R&D with focus groups and development groups on the dash and the controls before they release it.

I've come up with a digital dash replacement, but how many people are going to be interested in spending $600.00 on it?

would a replacement with dials in the mode of the one in the P4 be more or less than expensive

If the alternative dash has to be factory installed I think it adds to the overall production scheduling cost. If the dash can be installed at the point of delivery with the other aftermarket options, it's a non-issue and an aftermarket dash will probably be an option if the market demands it.

The overall design /styling of the dash itself is more important to me than the dials as long as they are functional and readable and the Elgin seems fine. I like the idea of a dash option if it doesn't add cost to EM's proposed manufacturing model of getting Elio's efficiently off the line and out the door. It's why options are packaged in a production run by big auto.
