Here’s an interesting venture capital article...

Amazon is testing a new way to bolster its relationship with start-ups and possibly bring in more capital to the ecosystem.

The fledgling effort, known as the Amazon Web Services “Pro-Rata Program”. It is designed to link private investors with companies that use AWS (Amazon Web Services), as well as venture funds whose portfolios are filled with potential cloud customers.

Amazon is not investing it’s own money through this program.

“The Pro-Rata Program is a new pilot intended to connect family offices and venture capitalists for specific investment opportunities from the AWS ecosystem.”

AWS has built a $25 billion enterprise tech behemoth by luring big companies and government agencies onto its cloud, and it now accounts for the bulk of Amazon's profit.

While Amazon is doing some start-up investing of its own through AWS and the Alexa Fund, this program is different. Pro-Rata isn’t investing any Amazon money, but is targeting special investors who otherwise wouldn't have access to these deals.

AWS & Pro-Rata listed three companies that were raising capital, and had met Pro-Rata requirements. The companies were supersonic jet manufacturer Boom(raising $100 million), men's health products maker Roman ($50 million) and FreightWaves ($20 million), a provider of data and analytics for the freight market.
