Look at the beefed up structural frame members and the additional L-frame at the front. A new massive door bar, moved vertically to the top of the door. Larger gap from rear tire to rear frame. All of these would give strength in a collision, and additional weight. What else did I miss?
i think i was the one doin the 50 let me correct that.
but that bad boy was full sprint....BLAM !!! head first into the fender
missed his buddy by about 2 seconds ... deer shoulda been faster lol.
The other two are side curtain airbags,IIRC. I don't believe they trigger in a frontal collision, only with a side impact. Not knowledgeable on these; feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I will have to look for it however I believe PE has said the side curtains will protect both the driver and passenger.anybody know if the side air bags will offer protection to the passenger

It appears, countless numbers of our Elio Motors reservation holders and loyal supporters are anxiously awaiting an Elio vehicle to “crash.” In fact, this sentiment appears to be a consistent and lively topic of conversation.
We at Elio Motors might have taken this personally if it weren’t for the fact that we too share a similar sentiment. After all, Elio Motors is all about doing what is necessary in the name of “safety.”
For this reason, a series of tests, impact events and extreme maneuvers, at set speeds – front, side, and rollover – will be conducted on actual vehicles to better understand how well the Elio is able to keep the occupants (or test dummy) safe from injury. All of which is exactly how you engineer for a 5-Star Crash Test Rating which is one of the core Elio Motors principles that guides each and every decision as it relates to the development, engineering, design and execution of the Elio.
And, knowing that a vehicle is only as safe as scientifically demonstrated during collision testing, Elio Motors is going to follow a similar process to other OEM's. One where tests are conducted approximately six months after the vehicle reaches the market. (click on pictures to be linked to Elio - The Science of Safety video)
In such a process, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will around this time-frame purchase a vehicle from “the lot” unannounced to ensure that it is representative of the Elio production vehicle and will then place it through a series of crash tests. Such tests serve as a means to provide consumers with information about the crash protection and rollover safety of a new vehicle beyond what is required by statute.
Prior to these tests being completed by NHTSA, the Elio will be deemed “safe” well in advance to the results being known and before the vehicle even hits the streets. This is because Elio Motors will conduct the same engineering simulations and crash tests by a third party test facility prior to the official testing.
Additionally, the Elio Motors supplier partner teams remain focused on achieving the 5-Star Safety Rating objective by:
Together, through each engineering decision and crash test Elio Motors and team engages in, we will continue to strive towards the highest standards of excellence in safety.
- Selecting the Elio Motors safety supplier partner that manufactures the parts utilized in the majority of vehicle makers today. And, who also just so happens to have engineered the precision of safety products to the millisecond for over 70 years.
- Incorporating an Elio Safety Management System of vehicle dynamics, seat belts, three airbags, reinforced high strength steel roll cage with side intrusion beams, ABS, stability control and crush zones for the front and back.
