years ago I helped rebuild several different engine and enjoyed the video .... with my computer the sound was kind of hard to follow .... he seemed to be pretty confident in the motor's design and construction

...The spray technology (for the cylinders, right?) is going to be used by the big car makers from this point forward
Low cost is #1 goal for the engine; simple oil change-ability was also a goal
Timing belt was strongly considered, but reliability/durability won out so they chose a timingchain
I happened to be visiting back home when the P4 was at the Dream Cruise.
As I was leaving, IAV guy Kody Klindt was talking details about the engine to a small group. Lots of great detailed info about the engine (oil pan, SOHC, EGR, chain drive, variable/Porsche Variocam valve timing, etc) and...
...sometimes do), and the resulting pressure would pop the seals right out of place. In either case, the oil would be leaking inside the timingchain cover and eventually would find it's way out to the ground. I used to put a quart in with every 10 gallon fill up because I couldn't convince my...
With hindsight being 20/20, I think EM could have better spent time/money searching for an already in-production engine in volume for a good price. Just about any 2-cylinder motorcycle, 4-stroke engine would have (more than adequate) power and most of the fuel economy. The Elio has better...
I'm quite sure the folks at IAV, whose knowledge of engines has won them numerous contracts from world renowned automakers know perhaps just a tiny bit more about how to assemble and prepare an engine

Welcome to the forum and for having the courage to jump right in. I think there are many engines that would work in the Elio. the problem is keeping the cost down to the $6800 level. The forum has tons of information on the development of the Elio and I hope you will enjoy viewing the topic...
...engine designed to work with a CVT or Manual transmission, auto stop, also has electric power steering. The insight engine has a timingchain, parts are readily available at any Honda dealer and the motor is rock solid with many cars reaching 300k with just normal maintenance. The down side...
...even move between 6000 mile oil changes (which is about 200 gallons of gas).
It has a little 1.5 litre with variable valve timing and a timingchain. Seems to be indestructible.
How do we get a message to Elio Motor Company? I am all in and still getting emails daily encouraging me to buy an...
...going to reduce mileage I have been accumulation on my 2003 Honda Accord. Purchased new, this year Honda Accord came with a double row timingchain, I now have 186,000 miles on it (11yrs). Cheers for Elio going with the double row timingchain! Efficient, low maintenance & realibility. The...
Maybe its wrong of me, but when I read your post, I try to do it with an "English accent" in my head. Cold beer I understand (maybe to well), but 40 Centigrade?!?!? LOL:p. Oh by the way, I love your homeland's bikes and cars. Please keep up the good work!:D
