H of R passed bill, now to senate for helmet exemption for persons over 21 years old..
Welcome!

I really wonder if the politicians really think about things. The reason why a helmet is a bad idea in the Elio is the seat belts. Helmets are heavy and when a sudden change in direction occurs the head doesn't want to slow down (inertia) while the seat belts restrict the body movement causing a snapping of your head sharply which can cause neck injuries.

Old Laws to protect 'the children' and us riding motorcycles. Lets face it, they were good laws and still are. But, things have changed and the Elio is new. The politicians who won elections and are now in office just need to be shown and explained the Elio. It will happen and Joel Sheldrown is doing it. I got the listen to some of his music yesterday. Lovely. Thanks Elio Bob.

Wow, kids in the back seat will have to wear helmet!?! That sucks. Hope you all get it straightened out soon.
I would think that once individuals and organizations sue these states for child endangerment, making sure the cases are well publicized, things would be on a fast track to change.

The plaintiffs could submit the various study results concerning the issue along with examples of real inuries and deaths sustained directly due to wearing helmets and belt restraints without the proper, but unreasonable (extremely expensive, hot, cumbersome, and highly restrictive), head and neck stabilizing equipment.

Also, a legitimate and reasonable defense for being ticketed for helmet/seatbelt/combo non-compliance could very well prove to be fear for the child's safety and an unyielding refusal to commit child endangerment.

A few (hundred?) of these justifiable and well publicized instances of civil disobedience might change things very quickly.

There's a worst case scenerio that would change these law within days, but I'm not even going there.
