It's not about pleasing everyone. Over 70% of those on the forum do NOT like the Elgin dash. I would think good sales would be doing the things that please the most of your customers. The Elgin dash does not do that.

The problem with saying that is that the 70% is based on an entirely unscientific poll posted on a web site frequented by a small subset of people who are interested in this vehicle and based solely on, at the time most people voted, a single photo of an initial prototype which was not even in the vehicles dash to give it proper context.

98% have never seen it in person. :) Z

Likely nearly 99.999% of reservation holders have not seen it in person and nobody has seen it installed the dash for proper context.

I can confirm that this is only an initial prototype and will change before production however the overall design is expected to be close to this.

Even if legally a CEL may not be required on the Elio because it is a motorcycle I am sure they will include one when they build a prototype intended for use on the road and in conjunction with the OBD-II system as you mentioned.

The entire gauge cluster is metric which will need to change for US sales. Specifically the speedometer numbers and marks will change quite a lot in the conversion from KPH to MPH. There was also some discussion about possibly making the speedo and tach numbers and corresponding window larger as well but I would not count on that. They are currently 1 CM tall.

We also know that there will be some buttons accessible to rotate the central multi-function display display through several screens which will include the standard odometer and trip meters and also some other vehicle information (possibly temps, time, gear selected, etc..) with specific mention of displaying a vehicle speed readout here as well.

Seeing that rendering makes me just want to get in and drive the Elio all the more :)

The design is definitely unorthodox and I can understand why some people do not like it as I myself have stated that my personal preference would be for analog gauges. However having actually seen it in person I don't believe it is as bad as many people think it is. We also really don't have enough information to tell how it would be received in final form by the general public as we have not seen it installed in a vehicle let alone seen the final product.

And all of us who have seen the Elio in person, sat in its seat and looked over the dash never saw it either. It was not part of the Elio we fell in love with and made the financial commitment. I am usually a very positive person and I know I will catch a lot of flack for my comment but IMHO this almost falls in the bait and switch category.
