Turnright, I recommend that you personally contact your State Senator to see if they would consider sponsoring a bill to modify your States current mc licensing code to exempt enclosed cab vehicles (Elio) with a seat or saddle. It seems to be working.....at least my local State Senator has agreed to sponsor and draft the Bill. The process has started in the Transportation Committee and there is no opposition. I'm watching this closely as it starts to move through the legislative process. He reassured me the process will be completed by Elio's anticipated production timeline. Time will tell.

First time in my 67 years........any politician has moved forward with anything at my personal request and suggestion that our State is prepared and makes it convenenient to register and license the Elio as a new enclosed cab cycle in Idaho.

Great news!

Contacting your local representatives is definitely something that does make a difference. While Elio Motors has a very good legal affairs VP in Joel Sheltrown he can't be everywhere at once and local representatives are much more willing to do the work when they find out that their local constituents are truly interested in seeing this happen.

Luckily these are not politically controversial issues so it really does not face much opposition once it is clear what is needed. The only issues these bills have faced so far has been getting the right support to push them through the process so they do not get stuck in a committee or lawmakers adding extra provisions which may be controversial and thus creating an issue.

a couple of days ago I emailed and shortly thereafter spoke with Joel Sheltrown, Elio Motors VP for Government Affairs .... he mentioned Representative Torbett .... he said he'd get back to me with more info on who to contact and what types of info to give them .... Joel said he would be coming to appear before the Transportation Committee .... I've offered to do whatever he needs that might help

Just as a general FYI:

Myself, and a number of other forum members such as JEBar, do have Joel Sheltown's contact information and we can share it with those wishing to help with legal issues in their states. Joel is a very friendly guy, very quick to respond to our Elio Motors legal questions and/or offers for assistance, and he does not really mind us sharing his contact information within reason.

We do not post Joel's information publicly on the internet to keep his spam levels down and also so he does not receive a bunch of email from random people seeking general Elio Motors information as he is not the appropriate contact person for that type of information.

You can learn more about Joel Sheltrown on his wikipedia page:

For Iowa I tried contacting my direct representative in the Iowa Legislature, Rick Olson, about the upcoming Elio vehicle and never heard back. I figured he was the guy to get in on this as he is a member of the transportation committee. But maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, I don't know much about this stuff. It is disappointing that I heard nothing at all back though.

Try both email and phone call.........I can't imagine a state Senator not returning a call.......even an assistant if he didn't want to be bothered. More likely he missed the message.
