That vehicle on the right has a very familiar shape and the mileage left on a full tank looks very familiar as well. ;)

Thank God you didn't say it looked like an Elgin dash G1.

Trust me I am not about to get that particular discussion started again.

This doesn't have TPMS in it too, does it? Fobo tire will still be useful? btw fobo tire has an app out on the google play store.

Surprisingly I have not found anywhere it mentions that feature but we will have to wait and see. Either way Fobo should be on its way to us here soon so we will get plenty of use out of it in the mean time. I did not know about the app in the play store, I will have to download it. :D

Great article, Thanks for posting. Does anyone know how wi fi in the vehice works? I've seen this option on other new vehicles, and wondered if you have to pay monthly internet access charges when using while traveling, and what would the charges be. It would be cool to be able to surf the net while on the road without using data on a cell phone plan. While parked of course.

I can't find a direct answer however my guess is that the in vehicle wifi is designed primarily to be used with a dedicated cellular connection which would require a monthly service charge as this would also be necessary for remote monitoring and control options. It could possibly also work by tethering your phone to the system and using your phone as the internet connection.

Local monitoring and control can be accomplished via an app and either wifi or bluetooth connection to the system.

Well well, there's our big announcement from SEMA, yes?

Very cool! And this is the first time that I've seen a partnership with EM mentioned on the partner's website. Nice.

The SkyzMatic Vehicle Connectivity System. Excellent. So G1, that "dashboard" you provided is an app's dashboard, not a car dashboard, correct? That's what would be seen on the iPhone or iPad?

I was hoping it would be like a moble hotspot. where you could use your computer in the vehicle for streaming video or checking for alerts on eliowoners.com.

This is the announcement I was expecting. The 'dashboard' is in that image is indeed what you would see on the app on your device.

I now also have a few more details on how the system and pricing will work:

The cost for the complete system is indeed expected to be about $1500 installed.

It is likely that there will be a much lower entry point for a base system which includes the controller module, rear view camera, and possibly a dedicated cockpit mounted display.

To the base system owners would be able to add on sensors/cameras to eventually build the complete system or only the portions of the systems they would like. The cost for this base system has not been set however it will likely be at least several hundred dollars as the controller is the key component of the entire system.

EM is working on integrating this system into an optional upgraded LCD dash so this really would be a fully integrated vehicle system.

The system does have optional support for its own dedicated cellular connection which would allow it to create a mobile hotspot in the vehicle. This would of course require a monthly bill for cellular service.
