nobody knows anything about motorcycle crash test standards... nobody.To my knowledge, that is exactly what they are planning - at least with the car standards. I don't know anything about mc standards.Z

Legal: Motorcycle License And Helmet Laws

I'm really down on big government but when it comes to laws that deal with such things as interstate transportation, they really ought to be brought under single federal codes .... doing so would prevent a person from crossing a state line and getting a ticket for something perfectly legal in the state where they are licensed

Dear Friends,
Just read that a Motorcycle License will be required, in order to legally drive an Elio. Gosh...due to a long illness, I do not have the balance required to take a test with a Motorcycle. Wondering if the "friendly people" of the Maryland MVA would allow me to take that Motorcycle Proficiency test in a newly purchased Elio.
Does anyone else have balance issues that would rule out the possibility of taking a Motor Vehicle test on a Motorcycle?
Thoughts Or Advice Would Be Helpful,

I have merged this thread into the existing discussion on this issue as this is a commonly discussed topic.
Motorcycle license rules vary widely from state to state. As BlioKart has mentioned it does appear that Maryland allows similar vehicles to be used during the test so if it is required then that could be an option. In many states a motorcycle license is not currently required and Elio Motors has a VP of Government Affairs, Joel Sheltrown, who also happens to be a former Michigan state representative and he is working with legislators and lobbyists across the country on these legal issues with plenty of success so far. All this means that there is a very good chance that by the time this vehicle enters production the motorcycle endorsement may not be an issue in your state.

Times have changed vehicles have also. It will be time to update our laws. If the Folks at the DMV won't champion the cause. Then it is up to us to force our elected officials to make them . Gas is lower now that it has been for awhile it will not stay that way.
It seems to say Wisconsin will wave the skills test if you have completed a riding course it includes 3 wheeled motorcycles. I can not tell if you can take the test on a 3 wheel if you do not have a waver. I have had a Class M for 45 years so things have changed a bit.

I can only quote from my state, we can take a motorcycle test with a trike and will recieve a trike only endorsement. Which only
allows you to operate a trike legaly and not a 2 wheeler.
Check with your DMV about this possability.

They do it because it is a measure of safety. It isn't a standard (or a requirement).
Turnright, I recommend that you personally contact your State Senator to see if they would consider sponsoring a bill to modify your States current mc licensing code to exempt enclosed cab vehicles (Elio) with a seat or saddle. It seems to be working.....at least my local State Senator has agreed to sponsor and draft the Bill. The process has started in the Transportation Committee and there is no opposition. I'm watching this closely as it starts to move through the legislative process. He reassured me the process will be completed by Elio's anticipated production timeline. Time will tell.
