Why did you pick this unit? Is the viewing screen flat or is it a small unit box that mounts to the windshield?

It lays on it's back on the dashboard, and displays the data up onto the windshield. It's simple, cheap, OBDII compatible (hopefully the Elio uses OBDII, or my input is moot). Probably only useful at night, but with my hours, it's dark when I'm going to work, and half the year, dark when I'm going home.

I would be surprised if EM does not at least support the standard OBDII output streams and from the Town Hall meeting this does appear to be what they are leaning towards even if a decisions has not been finalized.
I guess as with a lot of things with EM the vehicle is still in development so we will just have to be patient and watch as things develop.

Before I retired, I used to say "it's dark when I come in, it's dark when I go home, and I'm in the dark when I'm at work!"

As for your sig line "The only difference between a butt-kisser, and a brown-noser, is depth perception", I'd add "or a quick stop."

I actually found it to be a very relaxed way to drive - you could keep your visual scan outside the car, through the windshield, rather than down through the steering wheel to monitor speed.
The easier solution, don't monitor speed :p I get up to speed, take a single quick glance, then use the cruise control. Anticipating objection: yes, I do spend most of my city driving on cruise control too, if you aren't accelerating to keep up with the traffic in front of you, you don't have to brake much for slowdowns either as you have a buffer, and you don't have cars piling up behind you either as you are generally moving at the average speed of the traffic.
