I do not own any of the autos listed in the recall. So I'll take my chances. If I did own one I would look at suing dealer and auto company myself rather than wait on a phony government agency. To get a jury to go against Honda on something like this pretty easy case to win.

Short version: 2 years ago BMW motorcycle 1200 fault shocks turned up on some bikes.
NO replacement to be had.
BMW offered cash to wait for them to get a new ones made
or
BMW offered to buy the bike back.
Just like the air bags it was NOT BMW's designed that failed it was the manufacture of the shock that caused the issue. It had not shown up on every bike but No way they could allow anyone to keep riding them until new ones could be made.
This is what should be done with the air bags Honda and the others failed to vet their supplies products. If it puts Honda out of business so be it, I buying the beer.

I am not a betting man but air bags have save 1000's times more lives than lost. Had a son in a wreck the cars was crushed like a beer can Ford with air bags all over he walked away when they cut him out. 2011
Daughter was run off the road into big trees car was bent in two walked away due to airbags 2009. Wife hit glancing head on thank you air bags again 2005.
Yes there is an issue with the run of them and the company needs to be held accountable if they did not do all they could to insure they were right.
Air bags like seat belts a good thing .
Ouch! Maybe your family shouldn't be driving so much... jk

None of those 3 were my Son, Daughter or wife at fault. The person that hit my wife was undocumented citizen with license and a record a mile long.
By the way he is still driving around after all this time.
The one that ran my daughter off the road was partying in the car with some weed. She was given diversion and record cleared.

Another one Killed in a Honda. Why is Honda allowed to keep these cars on the road. They should be pulled until repaired. The owners compensated regardless of cost and it should happen right now. Seems our government agencies want to let Honda slide on this.
Honda is reasonable for defective products supplied by outside contractors and supplies. They can not wash their hands of it.

No Honda has not supplied them with a car while waiting for air bags nor has Honda offer to buy back those cars.
Honda is being allowed to skip out on their reasonability. If Honda wanted to they can find those cars.

Smitty,
According to your post it was a rental car.

Didn't the rental company have a responsibility to take it off the line? After all, it was a car with a recall notice on it.

Add them to the list. So many times we see companies sued did time for dumb stuff people. In this case Honda is in the wrong they need to be nailed down on it. It should cost them nearly all they have if not all.
They should be required to do what BMW motorcycle did on their own. Not all recall notices get sent to the right place I got one on a Ford many years ago that was 5 years late on a shifter coming out of park.
My gripe is this. Honda and many others contact out much of their product . They do it to the low bidder, put it together and get rich off it. Many times the parts are made in poor working condition and even slave labor. Then when stuff like this happens they act like they hold no blame in it. I say they do and so does much of the law.
There has been another once sense the rental car.
