Unless I'm not near a fueling station, I don't allow my gas tanks to get under a quarter of a tank. My reasoning is simple, the fuel pump is inside that tank and uses the gasoline to cool the pump!
While they "may" be better these days, running the pump when not submerged in fuel allows it to get a lot hotter. When you shut off your vehicle the pump goes through a "hot soak", meaning when it's not even turning, there's no way to disapate the heat it generates. (no flowing liquid in it) Premature pump failure, sometimes right then and there, is the result.

Learned that the hard way. 93 F150 with dual tanks, and my first truck with EFI.

Letting one tank go dry before switching to the other cost me a fuel pump in just a few tanks. And a tow home, one empty tank and a full one that wouldn't pump fuel when I switched over.

Ever since, I've treated 1/4 on the gauge as empty in all my rides. My commuter car's gauge hasn't worked since I got it; I just fill at 250 miles or so - in theory it can go almost 400.

I agree with Stephen. You should keep the gas tank above half. This way you may not need gas if there is an emergency and you have to go now. Or to help prevent moisture in the gas and causing vapor lock.

And, keeping the tank on the "full side" helps the fuel pump last longer. In most modern vehicles, the fuel pump is in the tank, submerged in fuel. This help keep the pump cool. :)

Edit: I see that the issue has already been discussed. :p

It took this long to get to P5...how long is it going to take to get from P5 to P30? Human life expectancy, you know...

Not long. There won't be many changes between 5 and 30. Mostly, they'll use.the jigs from 5 to make the others so they can be used for testing. I'd bet within 3 months, they'll all be out or really close.

pure guess, I suspect they will put the P5 through some intensive testing and when it shows they are on the right track, the production of the others will begin shortly thereafter

They aren't yet announcing a "go" for the whole P series. The idea all along was that the P5 would be used for manufacturing take-off, so I'm sure you're right about that. And I'm willing to be that if there are 30, 25 will be used for testing, and the other 5 for marketing. But getting them all built in three months, with all the engine parts having to be hand-machined (which took months last year), is pretty unlikely even if they did have all the P-series funding in hand.

Sure would be neat if you WERE right, and maybe you will be!
