I have never in all my years remember any car that offered a different dash as an option . I'm sure there have been a few examples but a gauge cluster is typically not negotiable .
As many have stated , If the Elgin is unacceptable :
1) Pass on the Elio and purchase something with a suitable dash
2) Simply replace it with an aftermarket cluster of your liking .

WOW! If you don't like the Elio Elgin how would you feel about the Edsel Rolling Dome?

You and many other posters left out the comment that it looked like a Ford sucking a lemon which description linked the name Edsil with lemon.
And if you look you will see that I was responding to Karnaj, not to your post.
WilliamH you are posting in a public forum, if your response is for one person only, I suggest you do it in a PM to that person.

I like it, too. It's different, like the Elio, and I like that Paul is basically dedicating this vehicle to his Dad. How many car companies have done that? He's on a personal mission, and this car is clearly personal to him.

As long as it has appropriate increments, I'm fine with it. I suspect the Elio won't be a speed demon, so changes in the speedometer should be relatively gradual and easy to read.
The Edsel, and countless Ford models named after people come to mind.

At the time of the Edsel I was about 13 or 14 and very much into cars. So to give an idea of why Edsel fell on its face the Edsel was supposed to slot in between the Ford and Mercury so these pictures may show why it was such a flop.

When you look at the internal competition and the fact that Edsel was set up as a completely different dealership line is it any wonder it failed.
And then there was the old Ford sucking a lemon.
And of course the Ford family was against giving it that name.

In the top photograph over the tail of the ford, there is an interesting vehicle. What is this? Is this the car made in eastern Europe for communist leaders that had the air cooled engine in the rear?

First, let me say that I don't mind the Elgin dash.

Now... I happen to be in the market fot a couple of Fiat 500s for my business. They have an optional instrument cluster that is totally different (and nicer, in my opinion) than the base model.
