Looking at the Continental web site that Mark posted, on the right side panel is the following statement.

Private Customers

These products are unfortunately not available for trade as replacement parts or in the aftermarket.

I think this means that the only way to get a different dash from Continental is to get from the vehicle manufacturer(ELIO), as standard or a supplied option.

Yes it just means we can't go to Continental and get an option. Not a problem if they are options.

Bob, you are correct, Continental is an OEM supplier and produces items in quantity for OEM's. The designs shown on the web site either belong to other auto makers or are reference designs meant to show what is possible. Elio Motors will have to have Continental produce optional gauge clusters as we can not go directly to Continental and buy something independently. Of course this does not mean independent aftermarket suppliers will not also offer options as if there is a market someone will produce it.

Just for general understanding there are no off the shelf OEM gauge clusters but instead there are off the shelf gauge cluster components. Each vehicle manufacturer designs their own gauge cluster layouts and has their suppliers manufacturer them to spec meaning that the gauge cluster designs are specific to each manufacturer. This also means that no matter what the gauge cluster ultimately looks like Elio Motors will have to design their own cluster using parts from their supplier's catalog.

This actually makes sense when you think about it as the exact size and shape of the gauge cluster can vary widely from vehicle to vehicle, not to mention matching the vehicles entire design theme, making it virtually impossible for there to be off the shelf gauge clusters designs for OEM vehicles.
