I just checked in again after a very long absence. I’m very sad to see no-one ever actually got a car, especially those who put money up front. As I suspected from early on in this sorry saga, the financial supporters here paid for big salaries of executives and advertising but from a practical point of view, not much else.

I came to this thread after scanning the more relevant threads (to the car) and found there is nothing new to read about the Elio itself. I was interested to see how you are dealing with this virus on the other side of the Atlantic.

It seems in exactly the same way as here in UK. Panic buying is the theme of the day, especially the toilet rolls. Inexplicable in view of the fact that the virus affects the opposite end of the body. The supermarket shelves are bare. I wish I’d bought shares in a supermarket.

Same here in Arizona. Started with toilet paper, then next day hand sanitizer, then water, then wipes, all tissues, all cleaning, some meats, then all meats except frozen turkey(maybe tomorrow for that), all bread. And now ISO-Alcohol, any other cleaning or sanitation liquid. All cold a flu meds. Band-aids?, why band-aides? All frozen prepackaged foods are going too. Does everyone really have that much freezer space? And raw eggs. Can people really store that much raw eggs?

Anything that is freezable, store-able or a 'staple' and seems a little under-stocked on the shelves. That's at all Walmarts and discount food stores around here. Insanity. A perfect example of fear causing the exact thing feared.

Makes me wonder if refrigerators (esp freezers) are selling rapidly right now.

Any of the highest priced stores seem to have at least something in each category, but they are pricing even a little more upward than usual. And a few 'sketchy' people are buying bulk, when they can, just to resell it to locals at double or more. Some for their church friends I suppose, but not all. So all stores are now setting limits per purchase.

I am having to work all my hours on fewer days so on other days I can stand in line at 6am.
On regular days, I have to buy any type of cheese or meat I see, just cause that's all there is.

The only benefit I see is the freeways are more open.

The faster an effective vaccine gets out there the faster this will be over. One note, if you get it, and survive it, you are likely immune for a year or more (Hopefully that's true, they have to verify that as yet).

3wheelin,

Thanks. I’m not working atm, due to this virus induced slowdown. But the advantage is that I’ve finally got around to fitting a modified cylinder head and reworked cam to the supercharged Suzuki G10A engine in my Liege. I’m hoping to get it all put back together in the next few days.

It’s a shame Elio couldn’t have gone with that same engine as in the early prototypes; I’m more impressed every time I drive behind one. I still have two of them. My spare engine is in my year 2000 Suzuki Swift (badged as the Geo Metro in USA) which still gets regular use as our family spare car. It cost me just over £800 six years ago and just passed its MOT test with flying colours, yet again. Most economical car I’ve ever owned and has often been borrowed by family members when things go wrong on their much more expensive cars.

China seems to have the virus under control. They have an unbelievable ability to ramp up production. With all the planes sitting around I hope that they can ship masks, shields and outfits out quickly.

That's what I can't understand, why the big rush on Toilet Paper? And here it's Olives, besides the same thing that is in short supply everywhere else.

Eggs and milk? You can freeze eggs out of the shell just fine, but liquid milk? It separates into one big ice rock and some milk solids and tastes like crap after it's been frozen. Also, it's not very efficient to freeze baked bread. Half of the space in the freezer that could be be filled with more dense forms of protein is taken up by holes filled with air inside the bread. I guess most of us have lost our survival skills somewhere in our lineage over the last 80 years.
