While Elio may not have it's own R&D Dept, it is paying for R&D. The IAV engine for example.
My question is. How many Elios will they have to sell to pay for the R&D of the engine?
Would it be one years production of ten years? and the first four prototypes, they were expensive.
How many years production to pay for that. All R&D will have to be paid for out of the units sold, but how many units!?

That's one of those questions that investors probably have the answer to just in the course of having all the information they need to convince them that Elio is not only a great product but that they will make their $$ back and profit handsomely in the process! Again, just putting the $$ towards a car probably won't make us privy to that info. It would definitely be interesting to see what the break even point is though. We'll see what happens...

by federal laws/regs a 3 wheel vehicle is classified as a motorcycle .... so, motorcycle laws/regs apply ..... autocycle is being created as a classification within the motorcycle category .... depending on what the lawmakers want to do, it provides for exceptions for wearing helmets and/or having to have a motorcycle license endorsement .... in essence, it gives Elio some of the best features of both categories .... the fact that it is designed to meet California's automobile pollution standards without having to do so, should make some of the bureaucracy out there happy

Jim
As far as autocycle being a subclass of motorcycle, this is news to me. I have always heard it expressed as a completely different classification.

EM has said 26 states do not require helmets and motorcycle licenses for elio. Therefore, the autocycle classification would work for this but seems to not be necessary.

I saw on the elio FAQ ( Which I can not find now on their website. If others know please tell me where it is.) that EM is working with CARB (California Air Resource Board). However "working with" does not necessarily mean they are going to meet the auto pollution standards. Perhaps elio is trying to be friends with them so CARB does not feel ignored and slap requirements on them (smart idea).

As far as making the California regulators happy, you are wrong. They are drunk on power and are control freaks. It is control for the sake of feeling a surge of power in their belly. I hope I don't come across as unhappy about the situation.:rolleyes:
