So I found a cool deal on a 3-D printer and just could not stop myself from buying it.:D

It should be here in a couple of days so likely next weekend one of my first things to do with it will be to try and print my own Elio model using the files AriLea was nice enough to produce for us.

If it works out well enough I would be willing to print out more for others. Likely would take a 'donation' to cover the materials. I will have to see how much material it takes to print out each one as the spools are not exactly inexpensive.:)

How much to print a 99% of full size one?

A friend of a friend of mine out in CA purchased one of these a few months ago however after using it a few times he decided it was too small for him so he ordered one of the larger models from the same company.

It only prints a max size of 6"x6"x6" however that should be perfect for a little Elio model. The specs are actually the same as the larger models and it can even handle two colors which is not common at the lower end of the 3-D printer market.

The nice thing about two color support is that I should be able to print the entire model including wheel/tires and black contrasting panels in one shot. I have also ordered a few different color spools in Black, White, Orange, Blue, and Red. The spools of plastic material cost me about half as much as the printer did so I do hope I can get a couple of vehicles out of each spool.

Not yet but if it all works out and enough people want it yellow could be added. :D

Funny thing is that I am getting a spool of glow in the dark neon green as this came with the printer when the guy purchased it but apparently he has never used it. So once I get this worked out if anyone wants a glow in the dark Elio this could be an option. :)
