The only engine pictures I am familiar with had cylinder liners and a traditional cam (no two step double lobe intake cam). Is this the engine that has been undergoing testing all this time?!!! I heard it said this engine would be tested to be used as a baseline for comparing the effectiveness of the flame spray and two step intake cam lobes.

Goofyone said " This first phase of engine testing is more about ensuring that the block and head materials as well as overall engine block and cylinder head design are what is expected so that there are no surprises later on." (post 667 of this thread)

I suspect testing the engine with cylinder liners and traditional cam would prove the head and block materials and over all engine design. Thus, probably two things (baseline and block/head materials) are being achieved in this test.

Goofyone also said "The first thing to understand is that EM is not the only one making these decisions but instead has a budget they have developed with IAV which allows for efficient and economic engine development and it was IAV that decided that only one engine was necessary at this time as the budget only allows for testing one engine at a time in this initial phase and ordering more castings would simply be locking in any flaws." (post 667 of this thread)

Elsewhere Goofyone said if ATVM money came through, many things could probably be done in parallel thus speeding up the process. However if there was no ATVM (as is currently the case) and only investor money was used, the investors would want to be as economical as possible which would be testing things in series, not parallel.

There is not ATVM money yet and things do seem to be progressing in that slow series of events.

This could be a slow and frustrating process. Perhaps we should all go and find some alternative hobby to take our mind off the slow progress.

Anyone for needle point?

according to what we were told at Charlotte, the cylinders in the motor being tested are flame sprayed as they will be in the production motor .... sorry, I didn't think of asking about the two step double lobe intake cam

Then there must be at least two engines since the one we saw pictures of had liners.

Do we know IAV's track record? Surely there is some historical information on how long the Engine build process typically takes to be completely production vehicle ready. I would certainly hope that this was all planned into a complete critical path model to determine the Sept 2015 production date [and that this date wasn't just a pie in the sky date set by EM's Marketing team].

in looking at the list of auto manufactures that they work with, IAV must have an extensive track record .... that said, I have no clue how many of those manufactures have a single engine to work with but I doubt there will be many .... we've repeatedly been told it will take months and 6 months or more has been quoted .... considering that the testing was said to have started in mid November and Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are involved, it would seem logical to believe that its still in the very early stages
