A Few More Choices On Elio Color Options Would Be Nice.... ?

Do You think Elio's current color choices are sufficient?

  • Yes, they are awesome, and I couldn't ask for more !

  • They're ok, and I can live with them.

  • I really wish we could have more options on colors, and maybe even get to vote on them !

So did anyone actually get a guesstimate on what it would cost for a paint job? Obviously custom work, paint & regions will vary.
I'll stop by a paint shop today, with one of my "spec sheet" flyers & see if I can get an estimate on a 1 color paint job, 2 tone paint job & custom "flames" paint job...I'll report back! I'm in Lansing, Michigan, for reference. I'm gonna try & find both a custom paint house & a chain place, like Maaco (not that anyone would ever take a brand new Elio to Maaco...please, tell me you wouldn't do that!), just as a price reference. :)

I will guess $2000, does the prize go to the closest with out going over Drew?

Yep, I'd pay extra for Yellow. Seems like I remember reading that Yellow and one other color were going to cost more. I'm OK with that - make it a cost add option. I also seem to recall that Yellow lost to the eventual winner (licorice beat dreamcicle http://blog.eliomotors.com/the-champion-is-4414/ ) in the first round of the color challenge. That's like loosing to the NCAA champ in the first round - doesn't mean you couldn't have beat everyone else in the bracket. That's why wrestling has wrestle backs.

LOL! There ya go, yellow could have come through the back door. (another wrestling tourney term there).

And, I'll just beat some of you to the punch... there are some things wrong with the above statement, on certain levels. :D

Too funny, I went looking for a forum member with "Drew" in their name, then it hit me. The Price Is Right!

If you are looking for some laughs, go to youtube and search on The Price Is Right. They have the very first episode on there with Bob Barker from like 1970. It is hilarious... the clothes / glasses we wore back then, how calm everyone is, the prices of things.

Now he's gonna want you to make him a sweat shirt, Wayne.
mellow yellow …

being EXTREMELY bright and visible is CRITICAL in low small vehicles. I ride a bike EVERY DAY, year round, and I will NOT go out without a bright safety yellow or orange clothing..

what I would prefer is the color IMPREGNATED INTO THE BODY PANELS

not sprayed on paint !

a big tupperware !!

interchangeable colors (Smart Car)

does NOT need to be shiny ! total maintenance free,

no wax, no touchup paint, no rust …

I read somewhere of a nano tech paint that constantly repaints itself. Go figure.

Hey Bill! Many months ago, they had a vote on what colors folks would like to see. Then they had a tournament bracket with 8 colors, to see which one would "win" and be the champion color. This was in March during the college men's basketball tourney. I don't remember which of the 8 colors won, you can look it up perhaps on the website blog archives. It's possible that yellow was in the 8 color scheme, maybe someone will remember if it was and why it didn't make the final list of 7.

I dunno, most models from current car makers don't have more than 7 color choices. I'll just pull a model out of the air: the Ford Fiesta Sedan S. Looking it up, number of available colors is... three. The Fiesta SE sedan has... 9 colors. The Fiesta Titanium also has 9. So I stand corrected. ;-) Now when you go to a lot, that's a different story. Any given car dealer is not going to have every color available for every model on their lot. Sure, you can order one if it's brand new, but very few people order a car color. With the Elio, you can order whatever car color you want out of the 7, easily and quickly.

Also, part of the limit to 7 paint colors may have to do with what is available physically at the plant, and what Elio wants to maintain in the paint area.

I know one thing... as I look at paint colors of cars out there, most of them are white, some shade of gray/silver, or black. For me personally, a car color is not as important as features and dependability.

Since this vehicle is 1-person wide, there is the argument that a bright color will help with visibility, same as a motorcycle rider and what the driver wears. But the Elio's lights can always be on, so that will help with visibility for a gray or black paint.

I've seen others suggest to get a wrap with the color or design that you want, that's an option too.

If the colors are consistent with off the shelf, are there ways of identifying each color?

This thread about bright colors and safety might the time for me to mention this;

"sequential turn indicator light". Mainly because narrow rear end may not put enough emphasis on exactly which direction one is turning. The sequencing looks pretty cool too. What do you think? The price is right too.
