I do about 84 miles round trip for my commute. Personally I'd like to see a ten gallon tank option. At least 90% of my drive is at speed on the highway do I should be getting close to that 84MPG.

Exactly. The problem arises when some people value things that are counter to the plainly-stated objectives of the thing they want to change. The bottom line is.... some people value one thing, others value something else.
Why even argue about something we can't change anyways? 8 gallon gas tank is it, period! Too late for any changes now and yes, if you value space, you make it your own and modify. The bottom line is.... some people value one thing, others value something else.
I would anticipate 75+ on the highway if you don't run into stop and go traffic and about 50 around town. So if your in a typical suburb driving into a business district, I'd guess you'll fill up about every 8 days instead unless you like driving near empty. But you know your route and comfort level driving while low on fuel. I hope you do better than anticipated.~650 mile range, on my 55-miles-per-day commute, means I can go about 12 days between fillups. That's about 2 and a half work weeks, or two 8-gallon fillups per month.
I like those numbers. Those are some nice numbers.
I know! I've got a bit of a paunch myself, and I've lost 5 pounds in the past few weeks just through diet. That's almost like shrinking the gas tank by one gallon. Four gallons to go...I hear diet is the cheapest way to save weight in the car...
1 gallon of gas is 273 cubic inches; so 4 gallons is 924
1 cubic foot is 1728 cubic inches,
so 4 gallons less is .632 cubic feet
Go through all that redesign work to gain 1/2 cubic foot of space.
I don't see where it would be worth it
What can you fit in 1/2 cubic feet?
