Winter Solstice

I just realized today is December 21 - the Winter Solstice and the shortest day of the year. Tomorrow we can rejoice because daylight will be slightly (very slightly) longer. Enjoy the end of the dark days and the beginning of the light ones. :-) Z

Yes, I had to begin work just as it was getting dark. My copilot and I both commented that now it will soon be spring (looking on the bright side, our job is quite a lot more tricky at night, especially in the winter).

I come on watch in the dark for both watches this time of year, and it is wearing. My TerraTime app says that tomorrow's daylight will be one second longer than today's... Yay! Thanks for reminding us, Z!

This morning I heard on a news report that technically this isn't the shortest day/longest night (of the year, yes, in general no) due to the vagueries of how our solar system works. The longest night/shortest day actually happened in 1912! Something to think about, we are getting off fractionally better!
