When I ride my motorcycle to the store, a larger one, such as a grocery store, if I spend any significant amount of time shopping, when I return to my motorcycle I find the cars now parked on either side have encroached substantially on the parking space I am using. Sometimes parking so closely that I need to roll my bike out of the space before I can open the saddle bags. I know why they do it, they are mindless "centering" their car in the empty space that appears when the car that was parked next to me exits. The stores have sized all the lines for (what now passes for) mid-size and compact cars. Don't believe it? The next time you are in a big lot, look for two full sized vans or pickups parked next to each other. Why should you care? Well, like me, you will soon own a motorcycle-with-roof. If you don't already own a motorcycle, you may be surprised by the general car-driving public's attitude toward the less than four wheeled set. The takeaway? Be prepared to replace fender skirts, and learn to back in to parking slots.
Speaking of fender skirts and the public, I also have been wondering how long I will have my new Elio before I find someone or someones using the outriggers as a park bench. They always look surprised when I tell them that they can't sit on a motorcycle they don't own. It should be interesting to add "and the fender you just broke will cost you $X00.00..."

I think he was trying to picture a situation where an Elio, parked between two cars, would be in danger of the car doors striking the front fenders. I think as long as the cars are lined up evenly, it should be nearly impossible for the car doors to strike the fenders of a parked Elio immediately next to it. The wheel fenders are too far forward.

However, I could see a situation where a person might park, open their door, climb out, close their door, and then immediately trip over the fender.

I agree with your assessments, but I had made no reference to door contact which lead to my confusion. I was thinking of drivers of larger vehicles who, being unfamiliar with the Elio or inattentive, use the main body of the Elio to gauge the intervehicle distance when entering or exiting an adjacent parking slot. This leads to a dilemma - the possibility of outrigger damage might be lowered by parking the Elio nose in, however, I personally reject this option when parking in a large lot (or nearly anywhere) due to the much greater danger of losing the game of "Russian Roulette" with the other drivers attempting to text their way through the lot or down the road or highway. If I back in, I can more clearly see them approaching and I stand a much improved chance of avoiding entry into their somewhat intermittently unwavering path.
