Just remember, if you choose to own a Tesla, it can be hacked.

Actually, any hi-tech vehicle can be hacked...

6 steps to protect your car from hacks

  1. Keep in touch with your car’s manufacturer
  2. Update your car’s software
  3. Store your keyless remote in the fridge (or faraday bag)
  4. Turn off your car’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use
  5. Hide your car’s Wi-Fi password
  6. Scan USB drives before plugging them into your car
At the end of the day... your credit cards can be compromised...your identity can be stolen...your house can be robbed...and the list goes on!

Enjoy life... don’t sweat the small stuff...and don’t worry about your Tesla being hacked! LOL

Another safe-guard is to use the lock button on the vehicle itself when leaving the car. If you lock with the FOB, you are transmitting information which can be received by hackers.

Most new cars today have keyless entry as it's cheaper to build a car with it as opposed to without. So, it's just the way it is. Back in the day a coat hanger and a flat blade screwdriver is all you needed to steal a car. So not much has changed. At least with a FUV, no doors to worry about. Even if it does, they look pretty easy to get open.

Considering that Tesla has positioning themselves as the "soon to be self driving car", yeah, I would be concerned. Yes, most newer cars use networking that can be hacked, but not all newer cars can "drive themselves". This would be an advantage of the Elio. Unhackable! Or at least the prototype I saw 4 years ago was unhackable without direct intervention.
