Discovered the Elio last month and I am so excited about what it has to offer. It reminds me if the early VW beetle, except better. Simplistic in its design yet extremely efficient. And the vision of being able to break our dependence on foreign oil and allow everyone to have dependable reliable inexpensive transportation is something worthy of achieving.

Hi and welcome from Oregon, ElioJoe. According to your profile, you're too young to have been around when the early VW beetles showed up. I, however, actually bought one of the convertibles in the early 1960s. It was such a fun drive and cost the outrageous price of $2400. I was too young and too naive to even question the price. LOL I found a bank to finance it and bought it. Now I'm looking at another new car that will be fun to drive and frankly can't wait to get my hands on mine. I have touched, been photographed in and around, and sat in the Elio in Portland and came away loving it even more than I did before I got there. In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy all the pleasures available on this forum. It is a very diverse group of people from everywhere in the country and even some from out of the country, who love to share their excitement, knowledge, speculation and creativity surrounding the Elio. See you next year in my 2015 Elio. :-) Z

Yep, I wasn't around when the VW was first introduced, but my first car was a 10 year old 1974 Sunbug with a hand crank sun roof. I drove it all thru High School and even replaced the engine with my Dad. From what I've read, the Elio will be diy friendly.

Oh man! I remember my grandmother having a hand-crank sun roof in a VW! Great memories.
