So after the recent discussions about avoiding potholes while driving the Elio -- Has anyone found themselves looking at them on their daily drive with a new interest? I confess that I have. There are two that are dead center of the road and a few that would make avoidance difficult. The state is putting in a new bridge though, so if I am lucky they will be repaving most of this road before the Elio arrives anyway. The other thing I realized is that seeing the potholes in the Elio will be at a much different angle than in my SUV. Quick actions will make it all the more fun. LOL :)

I have always driven cars and motorcycles searching the smoothest route down a highway and seldom get 'caught out' by nailing a pothole dead center.
I never liked riding w/my son because he does not watch the roadway and seems to hit every hole. Bad roads will age a car very quickly......kinda like too much drinking.

LOL... I know exactly what you mean. I swear my wife aims for them when she drives. When we go anywhere together, I'm usually the one who drives but there are a few times that she drives and it's almost like she is unaware of where her tires are on the road.

I have to admit the only potholes I have encountered in Oregon were in the private dirt road to a friends house. I used to pick her up and take her to the pool with me. Now her caregiver gets to try to avoid those potholes/mud/water. What I do have to avoid is the debris from shredded truck tires. I had to make a quick trip into Roseburg last night and noticed the semi in front of me swerved around something that I couldn't see. Since I could safely do so I simply moved to the other lane also. I hate to guess what kind of damage could have been done if I had not done that. It must have been 1/3 to 1/2 of the tire remains. Maybe they aren't as dangerous as they look but I never take any chances. :-) Z

Even just lying on the ground shredded truck tires have sharp edges and are full of steel belting which can easily take down one of your tires so it is best to avoid them. When the tires are still on the truck shredding down you really want to avoid the area as little pieces, or bigger chunks, go flying everywhere and can cause even more damage.

I know they look dangerous now I know why. Oddly enough in 57 years of driving I have never experienced seeing it happen. Actually, come to think of it, that is one of those experiences I'd just as soon pass on, thank you very much. :-) Z

Another good reason to follow at a respectable distance to allow time to maneuver or stop.
