Hello from VA! I am very intrigued by the Elio, so much that I promised myself if I sold my dirtbike (that I didn't ride very much anyway), I would use the proceeds to put money down on the Elio. So it sold yesterday, and I now have an extra $1000 to spend....

So, the $1000 "all in" gets you a reservation number, but is not refundable. Does it guarantee a base price? Any other bits of wisdom I should know?

Hi and welcome from Oregon, gib323. Congratulations on the sale of your dirt bike. If you go to Elio Motors website and start the reservation process it will explain everything but only if you read everything. The truth of the matter is, that $1000 gets you a reservation and therefore a guarantied place in line when the Elio is produced. I read every word of the agreement out loud to my son before "signing" the agreement but as I told him, it was like signing the paper the surgeon gave me that said I understood I could die from the procedure. I'm all in at $100 because that was all I had at the time. I plan to up that to $500 when I see the Elio in Portland next month. That is how much I will have then. I totally believe in the Elio, Paul Elio and the Elio team. I am low income and have to squirrel away the money for the reservation but I am OK with that. So far it has been worth it simply because it is one grand adventure following the Elio. If some catastrophe happens and the Elio doesn't I can live with that also but I will be disappointed. So read, read, read all the small print before making your decision and then make the decision that is right for you. Then come back here and enjoy the adventure because this is a very diverse group from all over the country and you will definitely get a fantastic education about Elio and just about anything else you might want to enjoy. Getting an Elio reservation has given me a new purpose in life and I am 72 years old. I hope to have my Elio in time for my 74th birthday in 2015. Good luck on your decision and enjoy the ride. I hope you will never regret it. I know I won't ever regret my decision to support Elio. :-) Z

What Z said. :)

It does not guarantee the base price or the exact poduction model, just a place in line. Though, that was enough for me. From all accounts, they are just a couple hundred dollars from the $6800 target price and the poduction model should be very close to the latest prototype. It was said on Facebook and at the roadshows that the only changes from the current prototype would be a minor change to the front grill and raising the roof slightly fo more headroom for the passenger seat. So, no guarantees, but they are close and still working to meet it.

So I read the Elio website offer, and all the $1000 "all in" gets you is a reservation place in line with the first group, and an extra $500 off the price in addition to the $1000 down payment. I couldn't find any other fine print. I would sure like to test drive one, but being a motorcycle enthusiast, I KNOW I would love it. It just makes sense on SO many levels. Thanks for your replies. So....is Elio expecting to have these in production sometime in 2015?

It's been pushed back a couple of times, but they say they are on schedule for a September 2015 production date.

When the Elio for you is delivered you will get a 50% return on your initial investment, a very good deal. If something very bad happens and it never goes into production you will only have your tee-shirt and bumper sticker for your investment. We do not see that happening due to the personal contact with the Elio folks at the various showings. Is there a rist? Of course. Probability? Unknown, but most of us feel that there is a very high probability that the Elio will happen, and that the Sept 2015 production start date is still solid. If you place your $1,000 all-in today you can expect delivery around Christmas 2015 or New Year 2016. Stay tuned for further updates.

Hi Gib, lots of knowledgeable folks on here, we'll try to get you answers or direct you to where you can find them.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet... Elio has refundable reservations and non-refundable reservations. The order of "you get your car first" is as you'd expect: for the non-ref, $1000 folks are first in line, followed by the $500, $250, and $100... next in line is the refundable $1000 folks, followed by the $500, $250 and $100.

Pretty sure that a $1000 non-ref reservation today would get you a number (takes as long as a month to issue a batch of the numbers) that would be above 4000. Doing some math, estimates have been stated, saying 250 a day for the first few weeks, then 500 a day, headed towards a goal of 1000 per day by Jan 2016. So perhaps the first 5000 would be produced by... maybe the first 2 months, maybe less.

Wow, thanks for the info folks! This is what I was looking for. I just finished buying the non-refundable $1000 reservation. Now onto hoping for a great present under the tree on Christmas of 2015. Thanks again!
Gib, Congratulations for making the decision to "go-all-in" and join the $1K group. Shortly, you will receive your production number that locks in your place in the production line. Use the forum search function to answer any remaining questions you may have. Looking forward to your contributions and seeing you driving your Elio.
