Hey all,

I've been looking into this amazing trike, and I'll be diving into the forums as much as I can. But I have several initial questions...Is there a FAQ area I should check out?
  • I'd love to know more about the proposed motor, and a drivetrain.
  • Scheduled maintenance requirements are a concern: I drive 80 miles per day.
  • Longevity of the vehicle is important since I put 130k on my current car in just 5 years.
  • Will the Elio handle snow at all or will a second vehicle be required for us Northerners?
I had a low Smart Car reservation number but they didn't hit our shores fast enough. My current car is a VW Rabbit.

It would be a nonstarter if the single wheel was in the front like a Reliant Robin.

Best wishes,

Steve

Motor will be made by IAV, numbers on torque and HP can be found but aren't nailed down yet. There will be both manual and automatic - or just AMT.
No info at all has come out on scheduled maintenance, but this typically is very similar across cars.
We won't know about longevity until people reach its limits.
Apparently it handles a few inches of snow well, for deep unplowed snows the folks at Elio say to stay home - or have a second vehicle.

Hi Steve, and welcome from Oregon. FAQ is on EM website. 1st point is covered there and in Tech Talks on this forum. There is an archive of the Tech Talks under the News forum. 2nd point, to my knowledge, is an unknown at this time. Same with point 3. Obviously how well you take care of the vehicle will play into those results. Eighty miles a day is not much for some of the people on this forum. There is information on EM website about snow handling plus I believe in the Tech Talks. There is also an EM blog you might want to check out. A lot of these reports have been imported into this forum by members, as you will see. If you want to sign up for updates go to the last page of EM site. At the bottom of the page is a place to sign up. I hope you have a lot of time because there is a lot of material here. You will find anything from actual knowledge to total nonsense but it is fun learning and meeting all kinds of people from all over the country. There is a very active Ohio group to be found in the State and Club forums at the bottom. Quick NE Ohio is currently organizing an get together of that group there. I encourage you to contact her. She is very knowledgeable and an interesting person. We also have a terrific support staff. Enjoy your journey to Elio ownership. Next year in our Elios! :-) Z

Hi Steve, welcome aboard . Live down the road from you in Huron Township west of Huron. I'm "all in " and waiting patiently.

The Elio would have not faired well in this last winter. Road clearance is about 5". But, in most cases, other than a few days it would be fine. My daily commute is 70 miles round trip.
