Probably decided to use the most aerodynamic shape possible. An airship is aerodynamic. Problem with that shape seem to be no down force to keep wheel firmly on the ground.

Would not trust this vehicle turning a corner at speed. Looks very top heavy. The Elio has a much lower center of gravity.

The Elio powers the back wheel (or powers the front two?) and steers with the front two. Perhaps if the Dymaxion did that too, it would be a little more stable?
