I didn't see this one coming .... taken from this link where more info is available:

"NEWS: On 11 November 2015, Billings, Montana, television station KULR published an article titled "Cabela's Employees Concerned About Future," reporting that a source (who spoke on the condition of anonymity) had disclosed a pending merger between two popular outdoor recreational goods chains:

We have developing news regarding a major retailer here in Billings. Sources told KULR's Leah Jordan that a major buyout is coming regarding Cabela's.

Several employees expressed concern about what the looming buyout means for the future. Management confirmed to employees that a competitor may buy out Cabela's, according to an anonymous staff member.

The sources said the deal was finalized Nov. 9, and the formal take-over will be Jan. 1, 2016."

I know Cabelas had been doing an expansion into a lot of new areas (3 new store up here alone); but I always though that Cabelas was a larger chain of stores then Bass Pro Shops; after reading the link you posted, I see it's the other way around.
I just hope what happened with Albertsons stores doesn't happen with this; Haggen Foods bought a bunch of Albertson's stores, and , well, they kind of defaulted on paying for them. So now Albertson's is buying back the ones that were paid for. Here's the Link

in many areas, Cabela's and Bass Pro have located stores in direct competition .... example : they each have a store in the Raleigh area .... so far as I can tell from very unscientific observations, they both seem to be doing OK ... I can't help but wonder if the bean counters will end up closing some stores and putting people out of work

I think it would depend on which store is doing better $ wise; and if they are going to keep the Cabela's name.
Fidelity Title owns Chicago Title; in some towns Chicago Title was loved, and they hated Fidelity; so they left the Chicago Title Office, and closed Fidelity. Same goes for the store location and size; the better one stays.
Some of the Fidelity Title Officers had a good following so they went over to work for Chicago. The others that worked there had to find other work.
So big companies will play these name games with their stores; the ones that are strongest stay open, the weaker stores get absorbed into the strong store. Depending on what they work out the buyer will change all shop names; some don't. The people working keep all current pay, benefits and seniority; the others, well they just have to find something else.

Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ: SBUX) is a global coffee roaster and retailer with operations in 65 countries. As of 2014, it had about 10,700 company-operated stores and another 10,650 licensed stores around the world. Starbucks reported revenue of nearly $16.5 billion for the 2014 fiscal year. As of October 2015, it has a market capitalization of about $86 billion.

In addition to its coffee products, the company sells a variety of Starbucks-branded beverages, food items and other products through its retail stores and independent grocery and convenience stores. In addition to the company's Starbucks-branded businesses, it also owns and operates a handful of other beverage and food companies.

1. SEATTLE'S BEST COFFEE
Seattle's Best Coffee was established as a coffee roaster and retailer outside of Seattle, Washington, in 1970. After various name and ownership changes, Starbucks acquired the company in 2003. As of 2015, Seattle's Best Coffee is the second-largest coffee roaster and wholesaler in the United States behind only its enormous parent company.

In 2014, Starbucks closed the last of its company-owned Seattle's Best Coffee stores. An additional 25 licensed stores were closed the same year, leaving Seattle's Best Coffee with just 13 standalone retail locations. However, the company's brewed and packaged coffee is available in more locations than ever before. Its retail partners include Burger King and Subway restaurants, Chevron service stations, AMC movie theaters and Safeway grocery stores.

2. TEAVANA
Teavana is a retail chain specializing in brewed and packaged loose-leaf tea, as well as tea accessories and related products. The first Teavana teahouse opened in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1997. By the time Starbucks acquired it in 2012, the fast-growing retail chain had 337 locations. As of 2014, the company has 365 company-owned retail locations and 29 licensed locations across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Teavana also sells its loose-leaf teas and tea-related products and accessories through its online store.

3. TAZO
Tazo manufactures premium packaged tea and herbal tea products. The company was established in 1994 in Portland, Oregon, and Starbucks acquired it in 1999 for $8.1 million. According to Starbucks, Tazo products accounted for more than $1 billion in sales by 2012. As of October 2015, current figures are not available. Tazo tea is available in single-serving pouches and K-cups in Starbucks locations, grocery stores and other retailers around the world. The company also sells bottled beverages in North American markets.

4. EVOLUTION FRESH
Evolution Fresh manufactures bottled fruit juices and vegetable and fruit juice blends, which are sold at Starbucks locations and other grocery stores and retailers. Evolution Fresh fruit smoothies and packaged yogurt products are available at Starbucks locations. The company also operates three retail locations in Seattle and Bellevue, Washington. Evolution Fresh's business is based on the use of fresh ingredients, cold-press juicing techniques and high-pressure processing known as Pascalization, which inactivates pathogens without the heat typical to pasteurization techniques. Starbucks acquired Evolution Fresh in 2011.

5. TORREFAZIONE ITALIA COFFEE
Torrefazione Italia Coffee originated as a coffee roaster and retailer in Seattle, Washington. Starbucks acquired the company as part of its 2003 purchase of Seattle's Best Coffee. By 2005, Starbucks had closed all Torrefazione Italia locations. As of 2015, Starbucks continues to market packaged coffee under the Torrefazione Italia brand. It is widely available at Starbucks locations, grocery stores and other retail locations.

6. ETHOS WATER
Ethos Water is a Starbucks subsidiary designed to raise awareness of water access problems for children in developing countries and to fund charitable grants for groups working to alleviate such problems. Each bottle of Ethos Water sold in the U.S. adds 5 cents to the Ethos Water Fund. In 2014, the fund distributed more than $3.3 million in grants to six nongovernmental organizations in Nicaragua, Tanzania, Indonesia, Guatemala and Colombia. Ethos Water is sold in Starbucks locations in the U.S. and Canada.
