My Prius gets 55 mpg and has a huge amount of storage. Sure it cost more, but I also get a whole lot more car. Bought this because I could not wait on Elio. For me the Elio would have to get the full 84+ mpg.
The more I read about this Elio coin, it seems the less I know. What I do know is that Overstock.com gambled $2.5 million on it, and I have to assume they know more than me.
I don't know anything about the financing mechanism that Elio is going after, but assuming that Overstock does. Why would they invest any amount of money if they weren't confident that mechanism wasn't viable?
If it takes $500 million to get to production, what good will $2.5 million from Overstock do? Why would they invest such a small amount, seems like just throwing money away. Or am I missing somehing?
I looked up the closest option to an Elio as rated by cost per mpg and found the link below. The top 10 ranged from $372-$484/ mpg and the Elio is $126 that's a huge difference. ($111 if you use the manual transmission)...
I have felt all along that the ATVM loan was intended for EV's and the Elio being gas was holding it back. I think it's pretty clear that this administration does not have those leanings, so I think it can only help. Unless there is a move to cut costs across the board, which I guess is just as...
I don't even know if they have enough $ to build the E-series cars, let alone the 100 pre-production cars. Next is the $ to start construction, that's the biggest hurdle and appears to be a long shot. So to predict a production date is not realistic. I remain hopeful because it seems like a very...
Unless I'm mistaken, meeting the reservation count is no guarantee of getting the loan. If they slapped a solar panel on the roof and called it a solar hybrid, they would have the loan next day.
The key to low drag is laminar air flow, it can be counter intuitive. Turbulence on the back side of the car or in this case the front wheel linkage can make a big difference.
Thanks for putting that summary together, it really helps. In a previous thread i was led to believe that the government altered the rules of the loan specifically for Elio, but it was in fact Aptera. This takes me back to my original assumption that they were looking for something that does not...
If my understanding of a uni-body car is correct, all of the parts work together to create the overall stiffness and strength, frame and body panels. On a tubular frame the body panels do not add to the overall strength, the frame has to do all the work. A uni-body car should be stiffer and less...
