Just as a matter of interest, my Son rebuilds older English motorcycles, and he is very enthusiastic about Aero Shell motor oil. It's intended for air-cooled 4-cycle engines and is a low-ash oil. It comes in 2 grades. Myself, I would use Amsoil, one of their multi-viscosity grades. The tests...
I like Minnesota just fine. There really is such a thing as "Minnestoa Nice" We have a daughter who took early retirement at 55, sold her house in LA, CA, and moved back to MN after 30+ years away from here. There once was a slogan - "Minnesota,- Theater of the Seasons".
One reason I don't want a CVT transmission might be - look up some cars that have a CVT transmission that has been replaced - the cost is astronomical. Some of the reviews were people that towed trailers and such that might have been too hard to tow, that's when the trouble started.
I'm not in favor of a CVT transmission. I'm old enough to remember old Buicks with Dynaflow transmissions, Hated that sound of the engine roaring while the car caught up with the engine.
give us something like the old Hydramatic.
Riding since 1948... I ride in the left wheel-track except if I see an eighteen wheeler overtaking me, then switch to the right to avoid the wind buffeting.
It is really not a good fuel. I use no-lead without ethanol in my motorcycle and my yard and garden machinery. I put stabilizer in it when it will be a period of non-use. Ethanol gas is really bad for fuel systems that are not used frequently
I am in favor of an over-running clutch if you can disable it with a switch. I like having engine braking available in stop and go driving, and it saves a lot on the brakes. The big truck tractors use engine braking, but they are a bit noisy in urban areas. The gas engine would keep things...
I like working on machinery, and I like small engines. I own a 185cc Honda single and ride it a lot in good weather. I am an old guy (80) but still pop wheelies when challenged at the stop lights. I raced a lot of off-road events in earlier days, but always with the idea that I would live to...
Hello all, and I know people are thinking why Elio in these present days of lower gas prices? I am an older guy and I ride motorcycles a lot when the weather is suitable here in Minnesota. I want an Elio to drive year-round as a second car. I love tinkering with motorcycles and would do all...
One thing about an over-running clutch that might not be good, is the jolt to the drive-train when you press the accelerator to resume speed. You should re-open the throttle gradually to prevent the jolt.
I'm another Minnesotan. I'm retired from Highway Engineering and Maintenance, an avid motorcyclist and bicycle rider. I would love to have an Elio. I enjoy working on my own vehicles and this one seems to me to be less complex than the current new cars.
The overdrive must have been inoperative on that Lark, otherwise lifting your foot from the gas would cause it to shift into overdrive. Overdrive could be locked out manually, but then it shouldn't freewheel when off the gas.
I am all for the over-running clutch feature but with a switch to disable it when desired. I like engine braking for most of my driving, it saves brakes.
