Small engines don't have to sound like a kazoo... my Abarth only has a 1.4 liter engine, but it sounds pretty mean. YouTube 500 Abarth exhaust to hear it.

Of course, Ford DOES turbocharge the 1.6L in the Fiesta ST, and it does get the lowest fuel economy of all three engine options -- as expected.

And that makes perfect sense. The 3 cyl is a 1.0L engine. The 4 cyl is a 1.6L engine. Although the turbo 3 will be able to burn more fuel under boost, it will burn less under most situations.
Under boost, a turbocharged engine is behaving like a larger displacement engine. A non-turbo...
There are a lot of assumptions being tossed around here.
Turbocharging a gasoline engine will usually cause it to burn more fuel. If you are boosting the air, you have to boost fuel injection to maintain a stoichiometric fuel/air ratio. The only way to use turbocharging to burn less fuel is...
Depending on the body style, the Metro with a manual transmission did 0-60 somewhere in the 11.9 to 12.5 second range. Those are officially published numbers. Real world numbers may vary.

My first car was 3,500 pounds and 72 horsepower. It could reach 93 MPH. The Elio has a much better power to weight ratio and is much more aerodynamic. I'd be surprised if it couldn't reach 108.

Someone here in Severna Park has one of those.... If I had the disposable income, there would be one in my driveway, too. There'd be room for it, because my wife would leave me.

Nope. Chrysler is owned by FIAT. But if you like the flat bottom steering wheel, here's he one in my Fiat 500 Abarth cabriolet:

I will argue one point -- automatic climate control should result in the driver needing to look at the controls less often. Like the thermostat on your wall at home, you just set it at the temperature you want and it should keep it there.
My wife's car has a manual climate control. What's...
I guess he could tell I was a little young to be driving. Back in those days it was just a slap on the wrist in a call to my parents.

I got me first scooter when I was 10. It was a Honda Urban Express. I'd pay way too much to buy a good condition one today. That was a great ride! Got pulled over by the cops in that thing when I was 12.

Really? We can actually have quite an impact. Whether you believe in science or not, it's hard to ignore pollution in the air, water, and soil. Heck, when they got rid of the wolves in Yellowstone, it actually changed the course of rivers and affected multiple other species. We returned the...
I don't think there would be much of a difference in night visibility if a truck came up behind an Elio or a Cadillac. There are lights on either one.

Yes, but that's not how generators work.
A) They are not nearly 100% efficient.
B) They don't run the engine at 100% power.

Yeah, I think a 55 horsepower gen could run a fridge... especially since my old 2 horsepower gen would run my fridge. That one produced about 800 watts of AC power. Given the same horsepower to actual watt output, the 55 horsepower Elio motor should be able to run a 22,000+ watt generator...
There's nothing exceptional about a 120 amp alternator in a modern car. My Fiat has a 140 amp alternator and my Kia has a 150 amp alternator.

I'm sure it has a lot to do with using off-the-shelf parts. However, modern cars also have quite a bit of electronics packed into them. One of my previous cars had power windows and rear window defogger, but it only needed a 55 amp alternator. What it didn't have was a bunch of electronics...
Yeah, tell me about it. Sticker on my Abarth was $33,000. I paid about $26k. A year later, it is worth about $14k.
Not like I'm trying to sell it, though. It's a fun car. Temps got up to an unseasonably warm 70 degrees today, so the top went down, and I found excuses to go out for a...
