The problem with these electric vehicles is range and real world use. I have to drive home in a few from work. Once home I will have commuted for 90 miles atb75-80 mpg for the day with the AC running and listening to a nice aplified stereo system that draws a lot of electricity. I just got a...
My anticipated move from Tucson to Phoenix (Chandler really) is here! I will now be commuting 82 miles a day, but I still don't have my Elio. I found a used 2000 Toyota Echo for commuting as I wait for my Elio.
Anyone have had any experience with these cars? Is there anything I should know?
I think it may have already been brought up, but both the Slingshot and Can-Am Spider are driven by their single rear wheel and have gobs of power. I'm sure the difference in power and two front driven wheels vise one rear driven wheel is going to make a significant difference in the driving...
Monkey can smash throttle and go fast, It takes a human to drive corners. Spirited driving isn't about a red light to red light thing. Its about turning.
I must disagree. I think Elio is a sports car at heart. Think Back to the Porsche 356, the MG's and Bug Eye Sprint. They were not fast 0 to 60, but they connected you to the road in ways no other cars of their time did. That's what the Elio can do, a light car with no power steering, a...
I'm pretty sure Elio's is likely stretching the envolope for hyper mileage and not cornering. I have never owned a vehicle I did not change the tire width on. I've never had a mechanical failure or a hydroplaning issue. The 2.5 to 3 inch difference is negligible, the real difference is tire...
You forgot the wider contact patch also increases friction further reducing mpg. I see the Elio as a fun alternative to the boring econobox. I don't think it needs to be lightning fast, but I would like a firm responsive ride. I'd be happy with 50+ mpg and a 10 on the fun scale!
Indeed the excitement of open wheel racing, with the top speed of a horse and the handling characteristics of a 1984 Toyota pickup. I miss those days too!
I read somewhere that the Elio's OEM front tire size will be 135/80 15. That is an awful tire for spirited driving. with a tall side wall and a thin profile side wall flex would make the car feel unstable under hard cornering. So I asked myself, "self what would be a better size for spirited...
Price of s kit, will really depend on how much power you want to make. Tons of factors are involved.
The Elio's high compression will be the biggest limitation. Timing would have to be significantly retarded and high octane gasoline would have to be a must to fight pre-detonation at low...
I'm glad you brought up 2002 Focus. I supercharged mine, lowered the differencial gearing to 4.06/1 more than doubling the OEM torque and added sticky DOT legal road race tires. The OEM CV joints and drive shafts didn't fail during my 40,000 miles of abuse. Don't know how long they lasted for...
