Is The Cam Drive Belt Or Chain?

...rarely require replacement and typically don't require removal of the timing case either if they do. This is from many years of experience as a MB tech. Now you know why I much prefer timing chains to the failed timing belt experiment of the '90s! I really hope Elio Motors doesn't go cheap...

    297,526 Miles .... Rip 2005 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2l Ecotec

Don't forget to unplug it, wait one minute, and plug it back in. It may reboot. This is my final instruction for my life support system. Unplug me, wait one minute and plug me back in. I may reboot.

    297,526 Miles .... Rip 2005 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2l Ecotec

Car died last night. Delivers Fuel but no spark. Pretty sure its the timing chain or ignition relay but at that mileage how many more miles are truly left... I'm sad to see it go but I DEFINITELY got my $6200 worth out of Deer Magnet. Going to haul it off for scrap metal. Thanks for...

Is The Cam Drive Belt Or Chain?

True... Depends on the engine. But, if someone gave you two identical engines, one with a chain, one with a belt, it would take the same amount of time either way.

Is The Cam Drive Belt Or Chain?

It all depends on the engine. I have gotten quite good at VW TDI timing belt changes. I can do them in 4-6 hours, depending on the model. That includes a new water pump, too. Most dealerships charge over $2,000 to do it properly... or about $1,900 to do it completely wrong. Sent from...

What Is The Latest Start Production Date?

By the time they get through making changes to fool us, they could have built another new engine... which is what I think they did.

What Is The Latest Start Production Date?

It could happen. A quick pass with a sandblaster and it would be "unpainted" ;). They also could have made an aluminum timing chain cover, to replace the clear one, closer to what will be used in production models. Or, it might be a completely different engine. :confused2: :becky:

Oil Consumption In Gerard (2007 Mini Cooper S Turbo)

...points. LOL, it was one of my posts from 5 years ago! BTW, I sold my poor MINI right when the warranty was up since she spent so much time in the shop. A couple times for the timing chain tensioner fix while it was still under warranty. Not the most reliable of motors, but quite fun to drive!

Is The Cam Drive Belt Or Chain?

For 100 points. What is the correct answer? Will the .9L Elio interference engine have a timing belt or a timing chain ? Having had to rebuild/replace many a customer's engine who did not heed the manufacturer or my recommendation I hope it has a chain. Never had one break. Those are the...

Is The Cam Drive Belt Or Chain?

Easy answer most likely...timing chains have more resistant on them, directly affecting MPG. My guess is that the design team originally wanted a timing chain (for better long time reliability), but sacrificed that design to go with a timing belt...all to squeeze out a little more MPG in hopes...

Is The Cam Drive Belt Or Chain?

Are any modern engines non-interference? I have never owned a car or truck with a non-interference engine. I have also never owned a car older than 1979, so that may have something g to do with it. As far as timing belts being a failed experiment.... I will say that I prefer a chain, but...

...merged with one about turbocharging.:confused::confused: "Hello Frederick, Yes, that is a mistake! The Elio will be using a timing chain instead of a belt. Thanks, Elio Team" There is no excuse for a timing belt, especially on an interference engine. The Elio Motors...

Is The Cam Drive Belt Or Chain?

I too have a NO TIMING BELT policy, especially on an interference engine! I would have bailed on Elio Motors had this not been a mistake, as I did on a Subaru STI recently. Thankfully Paul Elio is a much better engineer than judge of marketing types. But why hasn't this recent thread been...

Is The Cam Drive Belt Or Chain?

This is something I look at when purchasing a new vehicle. VW TDIs used to have 40k mile timing belts... and they charged $2,000 for a TB job, which often wouldn't even include all the parts that should have been changed. Over the years, they have bumped the interval up to 105,000 miles. Just...
