I just bought Awesafe electronic shooting sports folding earmuff about 3-4 months ago and it does the job but I like the sound of of your suggestion.Instead of earbuds that block a lot of the sound you should be hearing while on your bicycle, get a pair of the shooting earplugs that let 80% - 90% of the normal sound through but do a decent job of blocking anything above 81 DB within milliseconds.. They have a very tiny attached cap that optionally fits over a tiny valved hole going through the plugs, so you have the option of blocking a great deal more sound if you ever have the need to.They're designed to protect you from the sound of gunshots while hunting, while still enabling you to hear your surroundings at normal sound levels. They're so small, light and comfortable that you forget you have them in. They're not very expensive at all. You can find them at most local sporting goods stores / departments and you can get them on Ebay at great prices.
